Today, we announced a secure and efficient package to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, aiming to help prevent starvation among 400,000 children.    The cornerstone, SafeGates, is a fast and secure proposal to enable the flow of aid into Gaza via three new automated entry gates equipped with high-tech scanning equipment and automated systems, underwritten by Minderoo and operated by a third party.    Developed in consultation with the Government of Israel and Palestinian communities, the plan addresses key logistical challenges identified by the UN, allowing for the delivery of 10,000 tonnes of food into Gaza daily via hundreds of trucks.    An additional US$5 million commitment will enhance the existing Jordanian Corridor supply chain with new warehouse facilities, more trucks operated by the Jordanian Armed Forces and additional aid supplies, accelerating aid flow into Gaza through a new collaboration with the United Nations Office of Project Services. Key humanitarian points from OCHA: “Gaza is on its knees, facing a deepening humanitarian crisis. The scale of suffering caused by this brutal calamity is immense. 🚛 Access to basic supplies and services is severely halted by insecurity and the lack of resources. No aid is currently getting into the Gaza Strip as border crossings are closed. Around 3,000 tons of goods are waiting in trucks in Egypt. Safe and unobstructed entry must be granted imminently. ✋ An immediate humanitarian ceasefire is an absolute priority to allow for the delivery of life-saving assistance and urgently needed relief items like water, food, fuel and medicines. Without it, and without significant funding, the reach of operations will remain limited. ❌ Civilians and civilian infrastructure, including hospitals, schools and places of worship, are #NotATarget and must be protected at all times. The protection of humanitarian workers and assets must also be guaranteed.”

🚨 Despite warnings, the situation in #Gaza is worsening. Aid through land routes, the most effective delivery method, remains blocked. Military activity and relocation orders are preventing aid and nutrition services from meeting urgent needs. Different crossing openings and closings shouldn’t distract us: the people of Gaza need unimpeded #humanitarian assistance via established routes. Limited supplies have entered Gaza since May 6 and this has resulted in critical shortages of food, water, and fuel. We need a definitive #ceasefireNOW! In the meantime, we need immediate, unhindered humanitarian access across all available land routes and inside Gaza.

The Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza. An infeasible Security-Equity tradeoff Humanitarian aid reaches Gaza slowly and scantly. The US military is building a temporary pier, but there won't be U.S. boots on the ground. If one models this security problem using optimization, the solution is centralized distribution, which minimizes security incidents for the U.S. military. This will result in huge inequity because only the fit will be able to reach the pier. And the lucky ones will be doubly exposed to attacks (by whoever): reaching the pier, and coming back to their communities. However, This is the “the highest number of people facing catastrophic hunger ever recorded… anywhere, anytime,” by the IPC, said United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. (CNN, March 19, 2024) If one models this urgency problem using optimization, the solution is very fast, decentralized distribution, almost to the hands of the (over a million) people in need. And the pier cannot solve this problem. This is simply not feasible. Even from an optimization perspective, dealing with all the constraints, the only feasible solution to stop starvation in Gaza is a wide humanitarian corridor (or a ceasefire) that allows full access and a highly decentralized distribution of aid, now!

every life matters

The United Nations is struggling to provide aid to Gaza, with its agencies seen as passive observers, while the USA's funding of Israel during this time raises ??? Are they funding for the genocide to continue? Or should they be committed to save civilians without any discrimination ( as they have been advocating or pretending to be) What stage of inhumanity are we currently witnessing, and what should our role be: to observe or to take action? Should our role involve funding or intervening to stop genocide? Is the entire framework of international humanitarian law becoming less applicable, or is it perceived as selective when it comes to Israel's involvement?"
