Musician - Artist - Curator - Educator. Musical contemporary art; decoloniality; institutional critique; spatial politics.
Art Music Uncomposed runs today and tomorrow at Kleinhans Music Hall, 5-8pm. Regarding today's programming, see my post from yesterday. Tomorrow features: 1) a new realization of Yoko Ono's Touch Piece focused on often overlooked politics of touch in concert music 2) my new piece "asking the unthinkable," a series of annotations interrogating the sensory politics of the concert hall, realized as a banner 3) two linked pieces offering critical mappings of the concert hall's intrinsic relations to conquest-- First, my new piece "before music elevates," in which image fragments (pictured) indexical of (the positions of perpetrators in) racial-colonial logics intrinsic to canonical texts of (musical) aesthetics are attached to marginal/threshold locations around a concert hall. #concertmusic #classicalmusic #concerthall #spectator #whiteness #antiracism #institutionalcritique #conceptualart #appropriationart #experimentalmusic #musicalcontemporaryart #aesthetics #decolonial

I ghostwrite educational email courses for music marketing professionals. | Music journalist editor | Featured in Beatport, UKF, Matador Network, MP3 MAG & more.
“Building a community” means embracing a shared musical experience with people who value your art. Very few artists understand this concept as well as Rezz. Last year, I interviewed Rezz for Beatport’s “Artist of the Month” feature. During our conversation, Isabelle (Rezz) and I discussed many things: the hypnotizing effects of mid-tempo bass music, curating a new generation of talent through her HypnoVizion label, punk rock’s influence on modern dance music and culture, and even Niagara Falls (where Isabelle was born and raised). But what really inspired me was how she talked about her fanbase, dubbed “The Cult of Rezz.” “Cult” is a fitting word for Rezz’s devout audience. These fans get Rezz’s face tattooed on their body. A few fans have even named their firstborn child after her. These acts of devotion might come off as a bit extreme, but they represent the extreme impact Rezz’s art has on their lives. That’s what creating a community is all about. It’s more than the music. It’s more than marketing. It’s a genuine, positive impact on your audience. If a fan names their children after you, you’re doing something right. Read my profile on Rezz, published on Beatport, below. #musicmarketing #musicjournalism #PR #publicrelations

Thanatologist| Theologian| Professor| Consultant| Curator of The Ratchet Grief Project™️. Expertise: Grief, Trauma, Administration, Victim Services, and Personal and Organizational Change & Reimagination
As we step into Day 5 of our journey, we immerse ourselves in the world of jazz, a musical form that exemplifies improvisation and adaptation – key elements in our dance with grief. Jazz, with its unpredictable rhythms and spontaneous creations, mirrors the often erratic nature of grief. It teaches us to improvise, to find our flow amidst the unforeseen changes that loss brings into our lives. Just as jazz musicians weave new melodies in the moment, we learn to navigate the unforeseen turns of grief. It's about making music from the unexpected, finding harmony in the dissonance of our emotions. Today's Rhythm: So What by Miles Davis Today's move: A jazz walk, a fluid, expressive step that symbolizes moving forward with confidence and adaptability, no matter how unpredictable the path. **Remember, it doesn't matter how you dance; just pay attention to how you feel and how you're feeling in your body. #blackthanatologist #theratchetgriefproject #ThoughtfulTransitions https://lnkd.in/euryQzay

Sabato di Sarno: 'When Fashion and Fast Fashion Converged' Last Friday witnessed Sabato's grand debut as the Fashion Director of Gucci. It was undoubtedly the most highly anticipated fashion show of the season. However, the outcome left us with a feeling of safety, a departure from Michele's unique aesthetic, less chic compared to Tom Ford, and more budget-friendly than Giannini's signature style. The underlying concept was sound – envisioning young and confident Italian women strolling through the city. But, the execution felt overly pristine, almost predictable. It resembled what you might typically encounter in a fast fashion collection, characterized by commercial clothing, with a clear focus on items intended for sales promotion. In my perspective, it's evident how fast fashion has influenced luxury brands in their approach to merchandising and drawing inspiration from street culture. Conversely, luxury brands have played their part in educating fast fashion about color schemes, shapes, and collection structures. Many buyers, having pursued studies in fashion management, aspire to work within a prestigious fashion house. However, reality often leads them to the mass market and the fast fashion industry. This creates a dynamic where professionals in the mass market dream of entering the luxury domain, while luxury experts explore strategies for increased sales and greater inclusivity. We find ourselves in an era where the boundaries between these two realms are increasingly blurred. What truly defines a luxury brand? Is it the price, the materials, the attention to detail, or the exclusivity? From my standpoint, it's primarily about heritage, storytelling, and the overall experience. Upon scrutinizing the Gucci fashion show, it appears correct, but somewhere along the journey, the essence of heritage, character, and soul seemed to be missing from the garments. For a secure and commercially-oriented collection, one can already find alternatives in fast fashion stores, often priced at just €19.99. It's not a discouraging start; rather, it marks the commencement of a new chapter - Gucci Ancora. “It’s a story of life.” – Sabato De Sarno Custom soundtrack by Music Director Mark Ronson. “I loved collaborating with Sabato. I am forever grateful to him for introducing me to Mina's "Ancora"—one of the most gorgeous songs I'd never heard before. I had such a moving time remixing this incredible vocal. And I found Sabato's vision for the rest of the music inspiring at every turn, reworking Romy's "Loveher" and me & Lykke's song "Late Night Feelings.” Music Credits: Mark Ronson – Late Night Prelude Romy – Loveher Mark Ronson – Late Night Feelings (feat. Horror and music go a long way! A masterful composition can speak volumes, stirring a range of emotions within the audience. It's the invisible hand that guides viewers through the narrative, intensifying tension and evoking a genuine sense of peril. 🔊 Reflect for a moment on some of the timeless classics—Halloween, Psycho, Jaws, The Exorcist—each imbedded into our memories not just for their visuals but for the haunting melodies that accompanied them. 😱🎵 Music is a language that transcends boundaries, with the power of triggering a symphony of emotions and moods. Tailoring music to a story is an art, and the more precise the composition, the more impactful it becomes. 💪🎹 This phenomenon isn't exclusive to horror; it resonates across all genres. So when envisioning the emotional landscape of your story, consider the importance of the role that music plays as the driving force. 🎼 At Global, we invite you to embark on a musical journey, to craft world-class music to connect emotionally with your audiences and immerse them in the heart of your story. ❤️ #music #musicproduction #musiccomposition

The great producer, aptly named Bob Rock has had mega-success with a diversity of bands including Metallica, Mötley Crüe, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, the Cult, 311, Our Lady Peace, Bryan Adams, the Offspring, and yes, even Michael Bublé. I was reading an interview in a music trade mag when I found this great take on getting great vocal tracks from bands in the studio: "Make sure you're comfortable and that you are not trying to do something unnatural. Be sure you can hear well and don't be afraid to say so if you're having difficulty. Don't be afraid of the sound of your own voice and try not to get frustrated. Most of all, remember that recording is work. No vocalist does it in one take. Almost all good recordings are built from the best parts of many performances. Getting better is simply a matter of hard work." Wow, sounds simplistic, but how often do we overlook these basic things? Apply it to your working team, is everyone comfortable in their seat? Is everyone hearing the same thing, is there an apparatus to call timeout if they're not? Is everyone's unique contribution valued or are they frustrated? Are you making hits from the best parts of many performances? FunFact: When Bob Rock was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall Of Fame his speech gave some insight into his leadership style by giving credit to all those he collaborated with, saying- "to be recognized, means that I had to have worked with truly great artists. I thank them for their confidence and inspiration." #leadership #authenticity #teambuilding #highperformance #powerofmusic
