ESXi Hosts patching using vSphere update manager to secure the environment. Data store and VMware network knowledge. vRealize and Log Insight knowledge would be an added advantage.

Ugh the cognitive dissonance of logging onto LinkedIn to see a shit ton of your recently laid-off ex-colleagues reminiscing about their lost VMware jobs, while the same talking dummies, that *just* flushed the company down the gutter, continue with their babbling posturing about leadership. Good grief, if you don't have enough courage or shame to resign, couldn't all of you at least keep quiet for the moment? For folks laid off... consider making a list of people to never to work for - posers, career snakes, yes-men and cheap parasites that sucked the life and energy out of otherwise capable technical orgs. It's funny that Broadcom's idea of "cleaning up" include firing talented and passionate contributors with proven technical leadership, while the middle/upper management swamp is here to stay.

Last week at the Dell Technologies Forum in Dubai, I had the privilege of hosting a session with Hossam Hamdy from GitLab. My journey with GitLab began in 2012 when I was searching for a solution to store and version Watch4Net Solutions Inc. ReportPack. It was love at first sight with GitLab; it was git-driven, self-hosted, developed in Rails 🛤️(perfect for me to hack), had great UI, and a very early CI feature. Marc-André Vallée had a good laugh, and we ended up using SVN Jenkins... 😅 Fast forward to 2024, and I'm amazed at how much is packed into GitLab today! Aside from the original features, a bazillion of functionalities is here to help you launch your projects. I could post about the Meta platform outage that happened. Or I could share a well written article I came across today about the importance of right-sizing your virtual environments. If you've ever been a Systems Engineer, I can almost guarantee that if you're doing your due diligence, you've had the conversation with a customer or your employer about why over allocating virtual machines can be a problem. Or debated with a vendor about their resource requirements just to right size the VM a month or two later to a fraction of what they requested. Not only is it wasting company resources and money, but there's a real impact to performance in your environment. #MoreIsNotAlwaysBetter #VMware
