CEO OneD Battery Sciences, Inc. (HQ Palo Alto, Silicon Valley subs in Moses Lake WA and Munich Germany)
Thanks a lot Victoria Waldersee for your posting and comments. Regarding this comment: “Notably absent: 1) A clear pathway to affordable EVs made in Europe, and 2) More advancements on gaining control and oversight of the raw material supply chain.... ... arguably two of the greatest challenges the auto industry faces to protect market share jobs, adhere to regulations, & make mobility accessible and sustainable.” … there is one path: Europe and USA must use patented innovations, especially process innovations, to increase battery performance and decrease costs in ways that cannot be simply copied. There is no other way to compete with the Chinese EVs and the vertically integrated supply chain in China. My 2 cents… #evbatteries
Some highlights (and notably absent themes) from Munich's IAA MOBILITY: 💠 China's 'father of EVs' Wan Gang, credited with pushing forward China's investment in electrification long before Western carmakers caught on, outlining his vision for what it will take to broaden EV uptake: more efficient batteries, better EV architectures, intelligent driving systems, as well as hydrogen networks and plug-in hybrid cars for rural areas. https://lnkd.in/eb6va2dQ 💠 The chairmen of BYD and Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited, giants in China's EV space, "inviting" German partners to collaborate (an interesting framing in terms of who they feel has the upper hand), with start-ups like XPENG and Leapmotor saying partnerships will help them survive the crowded market back home. https://lnkd.in/erBjAVvx 💠 Mercedes-Benz AG & BMW Group showcasing their 2025 offerings for a high-range, high-efficiency electric EV for at the lower end of the premium price range: https://lnkd.in/eC5mQiZ6 & https://lnkd.in/eNvmEiq7 💠 Doubts from European CEOs around Europe's readiness for an all-electric future in everything from charging networks to availability of affordable cars https://lnkd.in/eUyGDge7 & https://lnkd.in/eUCzPqzw 💠 Activists disrupting Olaf Scholz's tour of the show, demanding more investment in rail for truly sustainable mobility, and deemed "anachronistic" and "irritating" by the chancellor. https://lnkd.in/evrz7WVM 💠 A motor made without rare earths by ZF Group, in a nod to European politicians' pressure to reduce dependence on China for raw materials. "Don't be mistaken, Europe will catch up very, very fast," CEO Holger Klein said... Notably absent: 1) A clear pathway to affordable EVs made in Europe, and 2) More advancements on gaining control and oversight of the raw material supply chain.... ... arguably two of the greatest challenges the auto industry faces to protect market share jobs, adhere to regulations, & make mobility accessible and sustainable.

The path towards the "All Electric Society" requires the electrification of many industry-related sectors, such as transport. For that reason it´s good to know, that the #electricmobility and the #EV adoption keeps on growing in #Europe month by month. According to the latest publication of European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA), "In November 2023, EU registrations of new battery-electric cars surged by 16.4%, totalling 144,378 units. Several markets contributed to this growth with double and triple-digit percentage gains, most notably Belgium ( 150.2%), which is now the fifth-largest market by volume. However, battery-electric car sales experienced a setback in Germany, declining by 22.5%. Despite this, the year-to-date volume reached nearly 1.4 million units, reflecting a substantial 48.2% increase compared to the previous year, representing a 14.2% share of the EU car market in this period." 👉 https://lnkd.in/d3Fxe3uJ Phoenix Contact #PhoenixContact #Emobility #PhoenixContactEmobility #CHARX #AllElectricSociety Michael Heinemann Joachim Pucker Markus Belkner Enrique Montes Rodríguez David Álvarez González Javier Izquierdo López, Ph.D. Arturo Perez de Lucia Gonzalez AEDIVE (ASOCIACIÓN EMPRESARIAL PARA EL DESARROLLO E IMPULSO DE LA MOVILIDAD ELÉCTRICA) AVERE - The European Association for Electromobility Claas Bracklo CharIN e.V.

𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗳𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱𝘀: 𝗚𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆'𝘀 𝗥𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗔𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲 Electromobility in Germany continues to exhibit rapid growth. The new registrations of electric vehicles more than doubled in August 2023 compared to the previous year. The market share of electric cars in the overall vehicle market reached a record high of 55.4% in December 2022, with pure battery electric vehicles (BEVs) accounting for 33.2% and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) 22.3%. These impressive figures reflect the rising interest and increasing acceptance among consumers. 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 Germany is heavily investing in the research and development of high-performance batteries, aiming to reduce charging times to under 15 minutes and extend range to over 500 kilometers per charge. Additionally, a further €2 billion will be invested by 2024 in expanding the charging infrastructure to improve network coverage and user acceptance. 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 The shift towards electromobility also brings social challenges. The transformation could affect up to 410,000 jobs in traditional automotive sectors, while potentially creating 390,000 new jobs in the field of electromobility. The discrepancy in qualifications and the regional distribution of these jobs necessitate political and societal strategies to cushion the impact. 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 Electromobility not only offers Germany the chance to take a leading role in the global shift towards sustainable technologies but also represents a significant socio-economic upheaval. Given these circumstances, some urgent questions arise: - Should the government continue to invest heavily in electromobility, even if it means jeopardizing traditional industries and jobs? - Is it fair for all taxpayers to fund the transition to electromobility, including those who cannot afford or do not wish to buy a new car? - Can and should Germany attempt to take a global leadership position in electromobility, given that other countries are already far advanced? These questions are not only technical or economic in nature but also touch on ethical and social aspects of the transformation. #Electromobility #Innovation #Sustainability #AutomotiveTransformation #GermanyDrivesElectric
