Scandanavia is leading the way 🇸🇪⚡️ Sweden is making history by transforming a highway into the world's first permanent electrified road. This innovative project, focused on European route E20, connects vital logistics hubs between Hallsberg and Örebro, strategically located between Sweden's major cities, Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Malmö. What makes this development truly groundbreaking is that cars and trucks can recharge while driving on this electric road. This concept, known as dynamic or wireless charging, extends the range of electric vehicles, reducing the need for larger batteries and eliminating the inconvenience of waiting at charging stations. As the European Union recently passed a law mandating zero CO2 emissions for new cars by 2035, this electrified road is a crucial step in preparing the infrastructure for a fossil fuel free future. There are three charging methods under consideration for the E20 project: the catenary system, conductive (ground based) system, and inductive system. Each of these approaches has its unique advantages, with options suitable for both heavy-duty vehicles and private cars. Furthermore, a recent study suggests that even private cars stand to benefit significantly from this Electric Road System. By combining home charging with dynamic charging on electrified roads, the study found that it's possible to reduce the size of a car's battery by up to 70%. Importantly, not all roads need electrification; focusing on just 25% of the road network could efficiently support this system. Sweden's commitment to electric roads extends beyond its borders, with plans to expand this technology by 3,000 kilometers by 2045. Collaboration with Germany and France in sharing experiences and research on electric roads highlights the global interest in this sustainable mobility solution. In a world striving to decarbonize transportation, Sweden's pioneering efforts in electrified roads are indeed a reason to celebrate, offering a promising path toward greener and more efficient mobility. #sweden #ev #evcharging #evcharginginfrastructure #roads #electriccars #electricvehicles

For us MAN Truck & Bus SE, it is always a special experience when we hand over a new vehicle or technology to a customer for the very first time. I am very proud that we were able to hand over the MAN Lion's Explorer E, the first eBus built on the new MAN Lion's Chassis E, to a customer in South Africa for test operation in Cape Town. MAN is thus making a contribution to making mobility in South Africa's cities more environmentally friendly. The special point of this bus handover in South Africa: Unlike in Europe, where we produce and sell complete buses such as the MAN Lion's City E, only chassis are used in the rest of the world that are then assembled into complete vehicles locally in the country by the bodybuilder. In the case of the Lion’s Explorer E, however, MAN not "only" supplied the chassis, but also realized its structure in line with customer wishes, intended use, and market requirements. The handover of the Lion's Explorer E is a significant next step on MAN’s way towards zero emission transportation that is paved by our all-electric city buses, followed by the start of series production of our new eTruck in 2024. By 2025, we expect half of our new city buses to be electric. Just five years later, up to 90 percent of our buses in Europe are expected to be battery-powered. In a few days, we will present our innovative solutions and services for our forward-looking bus portfolio at the important trade fair “Busworld” in Brussels. The focus is not only on our efficient, safe, and sustainable bus portfolio, but also on our extensive range of services, consulting, and digital services. After all, we want to provide our customers with the best possible advice on the new technologies - as here in South Africa at the handover of the MAN Lion's Explorer E - and take them with us on the road to zero emission mobility. #MANTRUCKANDBUS #Electrification #Transformation #zeroemission #decarbonization

Managed to stumble across the Transport Hub 'Stenpiren' in Gothenburg while getting a connecting bus. After using it as an exemplar Mobility Hub in several feasibility studies, I immediately text an old colleague Sarah Whelan for which she replied "Is it as good as we always said it was?" The answer: Yes! Buses, trams and ferries, all accessible in one place on one cheap ticket. The Västtrafik ticket has a 90 minute count down, allowing you to change as many times as required during that period. Also at the Mobility Hub is bike hire, electric scooters and most importantly, ice-cream! Definitely a great example of how to make public transport attractive and easily accessible that we should learn from in the UK. #greentransport #sustainabletravel #mobilityhub #transport #sustainable Ardent Consulting Engineers
