World's first para-xylene from direct synthesis of CO2 to produce North Face products in Japan! Really exciting to see one of our first CCU projects reaching such a milestone. Kudos to Yusuke Tsuji Daiki Watanabe and the team to lead all of this effort at Mitsubishi. I have been watching my mentor Yusuke working on this from day 1 (3~4 years ago!) engaging various stakeholders and receiving gov grants to finaly develop a product. So much respect for what he has accomplished! looking foward for a future to see CO2 jackets all over the world! "A consortium of seven companies across five countries has jointly established a supply chain for more sustainable polyester fiber. Instead of fossil materials, renewable and bio-based materials as well as materials produced via carbon capture and utilization (CCU para-xylene) will be used in the manufacturing of polyester fibers for THE NORTH FACE brand in Japan. The project parties are Goldwin, in the role of the Project Owner, Mitsubishi Corporation, Chiyoda Corporation (all three from Japan), SK geo centric (South Korea), Indorama Ventures (Thailand), India Glycols (India) and Neste (Finland). The polyester fiber produced from the project is planned to be used by Goldwin for a part of THE NORTH FACE products in July 2024. After that, the launch of further products and brands of Goldwin will be considered. The seven companies ensure credible traceability of material streams throughout the supply chain and will jointly continue to proactively promote the de-fossilization of materials to contribute to a more sustainable society." #CCU #Paraxylene #CO2 #Northface

Are you curious about the steps we take – from Germany to Harjavalta – as we recycle the lithium-ion batteries? 🔋♻ 🔋 First, batteries are delivered to our mechanical processing plant in Kirchardt, Germany, where they are discharged and pre-treated. 🚛 Next, the batteries are shipped to our plant in Ikaalinen, Finland, where they are disassembled and treated in a mechanical process. The battery’s plastics, aluminum, and copper are recovered and recycled, while the black mass is shipped off to our plant in Harjavalta, Finland. ♻ Finally, in Harjavalta, the critical metals contained in the black mass are recovered in a hydrometallurgical process using a method based on chemical precipitation. Following recovery, the valuable metals are delivered to battery manufacturers for reuse in new batteries. #lithiumbattery #batteryrecycling #criticalmetals Learn more 👇 https://lnkd.in/dJ9sK3Pn

LAPP has launched its first mass-produced bio-based cable, ETHERLINE® FD bioP Cat.5e. The cable's TPU sheath contains 43% renewable raw materials, reducing its carbon footprint by 24% compared to conventional fossil-based TPU. Marc Jarrault, Managing Director of LAPP India, highlighted that this innovation offers a sustainable option without compromising performance. LAPP is working towards enhancing cable sheath sustainability with bio-based polymers. Prototypes were presented at the Hannover Industrial Fair. Christian Illenseer, LAPP's automation product manager, noted that sustainable material production is costly but customer demand is strong. ETHERLINE FD bioP Cat.5e performs excellently in applications requiring continuous motion, such as cable chains and moving machine parts, with speeds up to 1000 Mbit/s and frequencies up to 100 MHz. It offers ideal protection against electromagnetic interference and fire hazards, is resistant to mineral oil-based lubricants and many chemicals, and has passed over one million bending cycles. The cable is UL/CSA approved for use in North America. The cable sheath is made from BASF's corn-based Elastollan® N, with 45-60% renewable raw materials. This TPU maintains the same properties as traditional Elastollan®, including durability, flexibility, and resistance to hydrolysis, chemicals, and UV. The bio-content is verifiable and quantifiable according to ASTM D 6866.

Umicore panostaa vahvasti akkukierrätykseen: The R&D journey behind Umicore’s unique approach to battery recycling. "Umicore’s unique and patented process works in several stages, combining pyro and hydrometallurgy. The pyrometallurgy stage, using high-temperature smelting without any external energy, breaks down end-of-life batteries and production scraps into valuable recyclable elements and waste impurities. The valuable materials are converted into pure metal concentrates, which are then further refined in a hydrometallurgical stage (using chemicals) that separates the metals, such as cobalt, nickel, lithium and copper, into high-quality battery-grade materials. The robust and smart impurity removal achieved in the pyrometallurgical stage makes the hydrometallurgical stage simpler and very effective. This results in high-quality recovered materials that can be used to produce new cathode active battery materials, the key technology component in batteries, so closing the loop in the value chain." #kierrätys #akkukierrätys #umicore #pyrometallurgia #hydrometallurgia https://lnkd.in/ekjPhaVX
