UK set to reach one million electric vehicle milestone Battery electric vehicle (BEV) production in the UK is expected to top one million between 2030 and 2035, a report has claimed. The news, from the latest demand report from the Advanced Propulsion Centre UK (APC), means a demand for more than 100 GWh of automotive batteries would be required. This offers the UK supply chain opportunity for growth, it said. The report also outlined the next steps needed for the industry to maintain the growth trend, including: - For the UK automotive industry to continue to grow, new models or new OEMs need to be attracted to the UK. - Value in today’s liquid electrolyte is relatively low, but semi-solid and solid-state electrolytes are a key investment consideration. - Separators are relatively low value and quick to establish production. However, capacity in Europe is low and looks likely to remain low. There are significant opportunities to localise in UK. Did you know…. The first use of the term “core competence” came in the mid 1990s based on Honda and its expertise in ICE? This agreement w Mitsubishi Corporation demonstrates a commitment to make electric power a new core competence. #TransformTheSupplyNetwork is key… particularly the ability to use “second life batteries” to capture power from renewables and balance demand on the grid. Alissa Yakali Alyssa Barbuto Eric Walli Amrou Awaysheh Jennifer Hawring, MBOE, LSSBB Brian Mittendorf ***^*^^**** Under their memorandum of understanding, the companies look to set up a business in monitoring usage of Honda's mini-EV model battery and transferring the auto battery to stationary energy storage, they said. Honda will begin sales of the EV model in Japan in 2024. They will also seek to co-operate in "smart charging" that automatically adjusts the timing of EV charge for efficiency and the "Vehicle to Grid" system, a technology that supplies electricity stored in EVs to the grid. https://lnkd.in/g9keiczj
