Tank farm are among the most important assets in a crude oil refinery and demands special attention during design, operation and maintenance steps. Unfortunately, the major part of the refining personnel and managers do not have adequate knowledge about the relevance of this operating area in a crude oil refinery and the priority of maintenance and capital investments in transfer and stockpiling assets are underrated in relation to the refining units. Interesting results for the SCP poll. All of the choices can lead to SCP, but in my work, I find most cases of SCP related to POST-CEMENT CASING CONTRACTION. Project 1 - Well cemented in Texas with weak 12.5 ppg lead cement across a gas zone. All quiet. After nippling down BOPS, slight percolation of gray water turned into strong leakage of gas and clear water. Unsuspecting shallow gas zone and a weak cement led to the SCP. Projects 2 & 3 & 4 - Wells cemented in Gulf of Mexico, Midcontinent USA, and SE Asia did not exhibit SCP for several years. After reducing casing pressure (change completion fluids, produce well, change completion mode, respectively) SCP appeared basically "overnight" in 50 to 100 % of the wells. Projects 5 & 6 - Twenty to thirty per cent of more than 100 wells cemented in these wells in North America exhibited SCP. That rate dropped to 2 % when switching to a fast-setting expansive cement and casing without mill varnish. thoroughbond.com
