🚒👮♂️To my first responder family that serves in the National Guard or Reserve... Are you thinking about retiring from the military? ❤️🤍💙 Over the past few weeks, I've had the privilege of welcoming two new first responder families to our Three Creeks family, who are also current National Guard members. For those of you who are close to retirement from the National Guard, here's a quick crash course on your retirement calculation and options. 💰 Retirement Calculation: It's all about points, years, and percentages! Your retirement is calculated based on an accumulation of points, which are then converted into years of service and finally divided by 360. For Example: If you have 7,200 retirement points divided by 360, you've got 20 years of active-duty service. 📆✨ 📈 But wait, there's more! The service multiplier of 2.5% is then added to your years of service. 2.5% x 20 = 50% 📊 Your pension would be 50% of the final pay plan, which uses the High 36-month average or REDUX plan option. 💵 Now, onto your final retirement pay options: 1️⃣ Transfer to Retired Reserve: By choosing this option, your time in the Retired Reserve counts towards your longevity service in your rank for retired pay. Also, it's important to know that you can be recalled to active duty in the event of a full mobilization (unlikely to happen and gives you the opportunity to earn more retirement income). 📈 2️⃣ Request a Discharge: Opting for a discharge means you won't be subject to getting recalled to active duty. 🙌 However, your pay benefits will not increase up to the maximum longevity in your rank (less in retirement income compared to Option 1). You will also have the opportunity to maintain a Tricare healthcare plan during retirement.🏥 There's no one-size-fits-all, but knowing your options and understanding the results of the decisions you make are important. #FirstResponders #NationalGuard #RetirementPlanning #3CreeksCapital

Today we celebrated the retirement of Della Yates, Library Circulation Assistant. It’s obvious the lasting impression of Appalachian School of Law Della left with, and she will surely be missed. Here is a very interesting article from the The New York Times offering different perspectives about the meaning of retirement. The experiences are varied, and cover the entire spectrum of the expected and unexpected. One of my favorite reflections came from Kevin Mihaly, who like me doesn't like the word 'retirement': “Don’t use the word retirement. It sounds decrepit and connotes imagery of rocking chairs and poor health. Somewhere, I came across the Spanish word for retirement: jubilación! Now doesn’t that sound more approachable and appealing?” Many people hire a financial planner to assist with the financial aspects of retirement, and a lawyer to assist with estate planning and life care needs, and an insurance professional. People should also consider hiring a coach who has experience and knowledge about all the other non-financial areas one can explore prior to and during 'retirement', i.e., navigating this transition, purpose finding, community, engagement, aging, and exploring all the possibilities available in your next phases/chapters of life. #retirement #aging #transition
