🍀 We celebrated St. Patrick's Day in true Irish style. We danced a jig or two, sang Irish tunes and raised a pint of green beer. Of course, the warm company of friends is our pot o' gold at the end of the rainbow! 💛🌈

While not widely known, St. Nicholas,
among his many patronages includes brewers.
In fact, he is the patron saint of brewers.
Really. I’m sure of it. I think.
The way we think of St. Nick in America begins with the publication of Twas the Night Before Christmas: A Visit From St, Nicholas by Clement C. Moore in 1823.
First published in 1823, it is largely responsible for the conception of Santa Claus from the mid-nineteenth century to today, including his physical appearance, the night of his visit, his mode of transportation, the number and names of his reindeer, and the tradition that he brings toys to children.
Prior to the poem, American ideas about St. Nicholas
and other Christmastide visitors varied considerably.
The poem has influenced ideas about St. Nicholas
and Santa Claus beyond the United States
to the rest of the Anglosphere and the world.
There you have it — we Americans taking credit
for another institution and its origins.
We’re good at this 🤓
We’re still trying to come up with a believable
narrative on how America invented the wheel.
But we will — in a bar or pub 🥸.
“Beer🍺, it’s what America drinks.”

After our first two VIP-presale events - this is what we learned!
1: Community is king - and queen. The support we have had from our local neighborhood and supporters is everything. From the heartwarming cheers to the rallying of friends - it was just such an unbelievably generous experience. So, thank you all for that!
2: Quality does matter! We connected with our customers over the appreciation for quality craftmanship and exceptional yarn-fiber. It was such a joy, because it was never certain, that there would be appreciation for our product out there.
3: Branding is important - but sharing love for the product and the process is more important. Sharing the excitement over the soft feel of a featherlight scarf and gasping when finding out, that our knitter had to do more than one thousand rows to create every single scarf - well stuff like that brings people together!
4: You can never have too much Champagne. All sandwiches need Boursin.
“What is the story of St. Patrick’s Day?”
It’s a question I probably ask myself every year. Every holiday has some kind of origin story, but some seem to stick more than others.
St. Patrick’s Day seems to be an excuse for adolescents to pinch each other, people who love green to celebrate their favorite color, the Irish to proclaim their heritage, and those who like to drink to do so in excess. And even those who aren’t Irish get in on the celebration (see the video of my three-year-old grandson delivering the line his father taught him on St. Pat's Day).
According to history.com, “St. Patrick’s Day observes of the death of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. The holiday has evolved into a celebration of Irish culture with parades, special foods, music, dancing, drinking and a whole lot of green.”
It appears the music, drinking, dancing, and a whole lot of green were not in the original story of St. Patrick but were the evolution to the holiday in present times.
Think about the stories of your business and your corporate culture. Are they clear enough that the purpose will last? Or will they evolve over time into something that drifts from the original meaning?
I teach people that when they use stories to teach, lead, sell, and inspire, they need to start with the purpose of the story. What lesson are you teaching? What action do you want to inspire? What do you want people to remember and do after hearing your story?
If we aren’t intentional about our stories, they may become something other than what we originally intended. So, be sure to imbue your stories with purpose so people remember their meaning and they have the impact you intend.
Otherwise, you may end up with corporate legends that are different than you want.
