Being a filmmaker I’m often asked what the best phone is for filming. The truth is most modern phones will film in high definition now and will have more than one lens, giving you some creative options. Interestingly, I’m rarely asked about microphones and yet people are more forgiving of poor visuals than they are or poor audio. My top tip if you are looking to improve your filmmaking for 2024 is to buy yourself a lapel microphone, invest in a bit of training and then start a few personal projects. We can help kick start you with our next online Smartphone Filmmaking course, coming up soon. I’ll begin by recommending a few bits of kit that will make a big difference. I will then teach you some techniques that we have learnt and used over the last 15 years. Over lunch you will then shoot some footage and in the afternoon I will show you how to edit and by the end of the day you will have shot and edited your own one minute film. We’ve now taught over 1,000 people in more that 12 countries how to shoot and edit on their phones and we would love you to join us.
