Our Journey into the FAs of an Organising Commitee Continues! Today we talk about CTY. CITY OPERATIONS is responsible for building a strong liaison between External Delivery Partners and Milano Cortina 2026 for City Operations projects – pre-Games and at Games Times – and is in charge of planning, monitoring and coordinating activities and services with local entities. CTY also supports the host cities in setting up a City Command Centre and liaising with other Operational Centres created by Milano Cortina 2026 (Main Operations Centre). Finally, they facilitate the integration of External Delivery Partners into operational readiness.

As much as I am attracted to smaller and regional cities, the reality is that our large cities are where creativity (and more importantly applied creativity – innovation) occur, because critical mass and larger-scale proximity encourage experimentation and interaction and new ideas. Just up the road from where I live, the city of Sydney, the largest city in Australia (for the moment, anyway), is grappling with the loss of creative talent and the creative economy which has driven much of the excitement and liveability of the city for decades. On 12 June, from 6:30pm–8:30pm at Centennial Hall, Sydney Town Hall, a massive line-up of Australian and global speakers – prominent artists, strategists and political decision-makers will discuss what to do about it, to help kick start strategies to turn the situation around. The organisers lay out the importance of the issue, ‘culture and creativity are the soul of our cities and communities - they create a sense of belonging, revitalise neighbourhoods, build communities, drive innovation and contribute to local and city centre economies.’ They clearly identify the problem looking for solutions – and it’s a problem many larger global cities increasingly face ‘While Sydney is a powerhouse of culture for the nation, what makes that possible is at risk. Our creative workforce increasingly can’t afford to live or work in Sydney. The availability of affordable, suitable workspace for arts and creative industries is the primary issue facing the cultural life of rapidly urbanising global cities.’ If you are in Sydney or going to be visiting at the time, this is a must. I was a last minute substitute to attend this at Hull New Theatre last night. It was really good, completely sold out and it got me thinking about Hull’s tenure as UK City of Culture back in 2017 and, more specifically, the legacies from it. All the talk in the run up to 2017 was about return on investment and making sure legacies were created that lasted for years afterwards. Many people were sceptical this would be the case but 7 years after our tenure ended I think it’s safe to say that was absolutely the case. The stand out example is Connexin Live, Hull , a brand new concert arena that has attracted some fantastic live acts and brought tens (hundreds?) of thousands of additional people to the city many of whom spend money in nearby hospitality venues, shops and hotels. The city centre public realm works and improvements to the Marina and Fruit Matket areas were all as a result of City of Culture (although some of the new pavements are starting to look a bit tatty and being replaced with tarmac - pull your finger out please Hull City Council !). The money spent on Ferens Art Gallery (which resulted in it being able to attract a completely different level of exhibitions including The Turner Prize) continues to reap rewards as does the capital investment in Hull New Theatre which is now able to attract major West End productions like the one I watched last night. It’s great to see Albion and Kingston Squares buzzing and the surrounding bars, cafes, restaurants and hotels busy much more regularly than was the case pre investment. Add to the above the fantastic memories the amazing events created and the number of city residents that experienced an art / cultural event for the first time and I think it’s safe to say we smashed it. PS Don’t we also have the most successful Millenium Project? 🐠 #hull #culture #ukcityofculture #smashingit 🎭🎼

Carrier neutral facilities is where the application meets the network today. Security services and video streaming continue to be the most dominant and monetizable use cases at the edge of the network. Will there be a rebirth of carrier neutral hotels or a need driven transformation with a simplified value chain and more cost effective solutions? Great insights highlighting the challenge in a slow to grow and highly competitive market in the last edition of #DatacenterDynamics Mag issue 49.
