OFFICIAL: Xbox is going to take 4 games to the other consoles. Is the future of PlayStation brighter? First thing that comes to mind "YES". • PS5 sales targets missed by a million. • PS5 forecast dropped from 25M to 21M. • No new first-party titles until April 2025. The perfect storm for change. • Sony welcomes third-party games. • Sales of these are expected to rise. • The “console war” ended with the victory. 🔴 But let's pause. Could this be Microsoft’s Trojan Horse? Sony forecasts rise in 3rd party game sales, but expects dip in first-party titles. Xbox can fill the gap with its 1st party games Perhaps Sony is winning the console game, but what then?

Interesting article by Stephen Totilo
Sony recently said that about 50 million active PlayStation users are still playing on the PS4, even as the PS5 is past the halfway point of its lifecycle. I asked gamers why they're holding off from upgrading to PS5 and Xbox Series and heard from more than 300 of them. Some of the answers were what you'd expect: no games on the newer machines that they want, not enough money to spend on new consoles. Other answers took me by surprise, including the number of people content to experience new-gen gaming via the cloud and a group of people who learned to live without new consoles during pandemic supply shortages and don't feel the urge to dive in now. Much more in my full report at the link... https://lnkd.in/d7nxKTrJ

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 May Arrive on Last-Gen Consoles, According to Leaked Pre-Order Info Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 might be coming to last-gen consoles if new leaked pre-order details are accurate. A Reddit user shared an image today that appears to be GameStop pre-order information for the upcoming Call of Duty title. The image shows options for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and notably, PlayStation 4, suggesting that Black Ops 6 will be available on a console that first launched in 2013. Verification and Cross-Gen Support Insider Gaming reports that its sources have verified the image, indicating that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will indeed come to last-gen consoles. Although the image doesn’t mention Xbox One, the site notes that the Xbox Series X|S version will offer cross-generation support for Xbox One players. Additionally, Microsoft, which owns Activision, signed a deal in 2022 to bring Call of Duty titles to Nintendo consoles for at least ten years. While the Nintendo Switch may not get Black Ops 6 this year, future entries might release for Nintendo’s rumored Switch 2. Official Announcements and Release Date More details about Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 are expected during Microsoft's Xbox Games Showcase on June 9, 2024. Following the main event, a dedicated show for the latest entry in the franchise will air. Until official confirmation from Activision, it’s wise to remain skeptical about PS4 and Xbox One versions. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 doesn’t have a release date yet but is anticipated to launch this fall. For more details, check out the teasers released so far and our reviews for 2023’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, which also launched on last-gen consoles. #CallOfDuty #BlackOps6 #LastGenConsoles #PS4 #XboxOne #GamingLeaks #GamePreOrder #Activision #Microsoft #XboxSeriesX #PS5 #NintendoSwitch2 #GamingNews

Xbox on Playstation. This is an entirely web2 play with an entirely web3 playbook. Bring content to where the users are, open up walled gardens and IP to ecosystems that you don't fully control, partner with competitors to raise all tides. In the end, this typically helps the bottom line. It's a fine balance between giving up the perceived moat and increasing your TAM. Xbox vs Playstation has the extra baggage of hardware, something that is great when you're the king and everyone is on your proprietary platform, but doesn't work as well when someone else is winning. There's a win-win here, though. Xbox knows it lost the console wars, but MSFT is increasingly owning the content war, and with that comes the ability choose greater distribution rather than walled gardens. Users buy new consoles every ~8 years, but if you can sell 8 Starfield sequels at $70/each (so $580 over the same timeframe), to 2x as many people, you more than offset the $400 you make on the console alone. And here's the long-term jujutsu. Open up enough of the IP and allow for crossplay and users can swing back toward your hardware later on, knowing they aren't missing friends or exclusives on the other platform. https://lnkd.in/d8T2RrrE

Baldur's Gate III is coming to Xbox this year after a Series S compromise Baldur's Gate III is arguably the game of the summer, and it isn't even out on consoles yet. Developer Larian Studios has taken a "it'll be out when it's ready" approach to releasing the game on various platforms. After becoming an instant hit on Windows when it came out of early access earlier this month, Baldur's Gate III will land on PlayStation 5 and macOS on September 6th. The exact Xbox release date is still unclear, but Larian has finally confirmed the massive RPG will come to Microsoft's consoles later this year. The main reason that Larian delayed the Xbox release (and thus making Baldur's Gate III a PlayStation console exclusive for a limited time) was due to Microsoft's rules about games having feature parity on Series S and Series X. The latter is the more powerful of the two consoles and tends to deliver visuals with higher fidelity and framerates, as well as ray-tracing. “We have no exclusivity deal that prevents us from launching on Xbox,” Michael Douse, director of publishing at Larian Studios, wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter) last month. “The issue is a technical hurdle. We cannot remove the split-screen feature because we are obliged to launch with feature parity, and so con...

Creating Strategies, Games, and Mission-Driven Teams that Address Disruptive Trends w/YOU| TENCENT, EA & Activision | Inventor | Investor
We are nearing 4 years since the 9th generation of gaming consoles began with the launch of PS5 and Xbox Series. What games have been the standouts so far? Your takeaways, if any? The ninth generation of video game consoles began in November 2020 with the release of two major consoles: the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X|S. Console generations last somewhere between 5 to 8 years so it is fair to say that is a substantial amount in any console generation. I think it's been a great generation. It's nice to play games with fast load times and better performance on consoles. These changes may be considered subtle, however, and is akin to upgrading a PC. The Nintendo Switch's hybrid nature and lower technical specifications set it apart from PlayStation and Xbox consoles. Nintendo has long purposefully distanced itself from traditional console competition, focusing on their own approach to gaming rather than trying go byte for byte and pixel for pixel. As we are heading into 4 years with this generation, it seems like exclusives are just starting to ramp up. Looking forward to what the rest of 2024 and beyond has to bring.

For the first time ever, Sea Of Thieves will be setting sail on PlayStation this April, and even though we've still got almost two months to go until its release date, the game is currently a "best selling" pre-order on PS5 as things stand. If you look at the "PS5 Pre-orders" chart and then sort by "Best Selling" in the UK \(along with various other regions\), you'll see that the Sea of Thieves Premium Edition is topping the list as things stand. This was also the case in the United States earlier today - as seen in the image below - although it's since been overtaken by MLB The Show 24. Sea of Thieves is currently the #1 Best Selling Pre-Order on PlayStation Network in the United States https://lnkd.in/eYf-ECCe Benji-Sales \(\@BenjiSales\) March 10, 2024 Whether it's leading the way in your region or not, it's clear that PlayStation owners are extremely excited for the release of Sea of Thieves on PS5 this April, despite Rare's pirate adventure being almost six years old at this point. Of course, the big upside for Xbox fans is that Sea of Thieves is already playable with Xbox and PC Game Pass at no extra charge, and it also often goes on sale for very reasonable prices. Its arrival on PS5 is good news for the game's playerbase as well, as it will soon be implementing full crossplay between Xbox, PC and PlayStation. What are your thoughts about this? New Post: The PS5 and Xbox Series X are the ugliest consoles ever – Reader’s Feature Not the prettiest couple (Picture: Metro.co.uk)A reader hopes the PS5 Slim will feature a significant redesign, as he accuses this generation of consoles of being the ugliest ever. In previous generations the Slim model of the PlayStation has been a pretty minor thing, with a chance for a price drop (of either it or the previous model) being the main point of interest. It’s always cool to see how Sony might redesign them but that’s usually only a side benefit. This generation though it seems to be the most important reason for getting a PS5 Slim because, oh boy, the PlayStation 5 is an ugly slab of consumer electronics. Like many, I quite liked the PlayStation 5 at first, when I saw it only in pictures. It was something different to just another black box and I liked the colour scheme. Then I realised how big it was and suddenly it didn’t seem quite such a good idea. I ended up getting one anyway and things actually got worse when I discovered that to lay it horizontally you have to put it on that rickety stand that makes the whole thing wobble like a nodding dog if you so much as touch the actual console. Nothing about the design makes any sense to me, especially as the size is apparently due to it having a pair of massive fans. I’m not sure why this is necessary though as the Xbox Series X, which is actually more powerful, doesn’t need anything like that. Unfortunately though it’s just as ugly, in its own special way. It’s not actually the PS5 Slim that made me first want to write in about this, it was because I’d gone round to my sister’s and for some reason her kid had his PlayStation 5 out on the table in his bedroom and I realised just how enormous and unwieldy it was. It might look big sat under the TV but when you see it out on its own it just seems stupidly big. Then I happened to be round a mate’s house, who has an Xbox Series X, and he has it standing vertically in the corner. Inspired by my earlier PlayStation 5 watching I asked him to turn it on its side and put it under the TV, in the sort of set-up I would have at home if I had one. And what do you know? It’s ugly as sin as well! It’s not as bad as the PlayStation 5, I’ll grant you, but we brought it out and put it on the table and it really is an awkwardly shaped lump of plastic, that rather than looking like a fridge just looks like a slab of rock, with absolutely no attempt to make it look pleasing to the eye. Truly, this is the ugliest generation of consoles ever. Although, on its own I don’t think the PlayStation 5 quite beats the supreme repulsiveness of the American SNES (or the Atari Jaguar toilet seat design when connected to its CD player, but no one remembers that). More: Trending At least the Mega Drive and European/Japanese SNES looked nice, so the entire generation wasn’t a disaster. If you count the Switch as last gen then this
