It's exciting. It's enchanting. It's exhilarating. It's electric. No really, it's electric. This weekend marks the start of the Formula E season, right down in Peter Schawacker’s neck of the woods – Mexico City. What is Formula E you might ask? Well, its single seater, open-wheel racing…but with electric cars. And it isn’t your local community college out there racing; there are some pretty big names involved in this. Andretti Global. Team Penske. Porsche AG. McLaren Racing. Nissan Motor Corporation. Jaguar. Maserati MSG Racing. And the racing itself? Its pretty dang good. Formula E cars produce about 350kW of power, or 470hp. That’s good for somewhere in the neighborhood of 200mph. Think INDYCAR or Formula 1, but with batteries. Have I piqued your interest? Well here comes the letdown….how to watch. I *think* you can watch it on the Roku channel. I also *think* you can watch it on Discovery . And you *might* be able to watch it the day afterwards on CBS Sports, or maybe Paramount . Not really sure. It’s a little painful trying to figure all of this out, but hopefully things will get a little clearer after the season opener. Streaming frustrations aside, the racing should be good, and if you’re clever enough to figure out how to watch it, you’ll likely be entertained. Did you know Ferrari was initially a racing company, not a car company? Undoubtedly, Ferrari is one of the most powerful brands in the world. Its net worth is $74.99 Billion. But the company had somewhat different beginnings. In the early 90s, its founder, Enzo Ferrari, was a race car driver. In fact, Ferrari was founded as a racing team with the sale of road cars as a means to fund the racing operation. But in 1938, World War II broke out, and Alfa Romeo(his city) was shut down. With no means to conduct racing shows, Ferrari made a life-changing decision. He decided to make cars for himself. Was he successful? Yes, and how! So much so that today, Ferrari makes more than 13,000 cars every year. The company had to boost its production because of the high demand for luxury sports cars. It's amazing to see how even the world's biggest companies had such humble beginnings. I mean, who would have thought  Ferrari would make the world's most influential car brand? So if you're second thinking about your future, please don't. Give it your all. And the results will come. It's just a matter of time. Just put your head down and put in the work. You never know you'll make the next Ferrari in your industry!

The Bugatti Type 35 Set New Standards 100 Years Ago https://lnkd.in/e54ST5tk It pioneered the idea of race-ready automobile production and won over 1,000 races in its time. In 2024, Bugatti marks the centennial anniversary of its legendary Type 35. Unveiled in 1924, it became an instant icon, dominating races with its exceptional performance, handling, and distinctive design. Ettore Arco Isidoro Bugatti, the founder of the French luxury brand, penned the Type 35 himself. The Type 35 is one of history's most successful race cars, winning over 1,000 races across eight versions produced. Louis Chiron's Grand Prix wins (yes, that Chiron) were among the Type 35's most iconic accolades, and Molsheim deemed the achievements of this driver in this car good enough to warrant a nod to the past with the name of its Veyron replacement. Bugatti was born into a family influenced by art and design. Despite (and possibly due to) the lack of training as an engineer, the Type 35 introduced technical innovations that pushed the boundaries of motorsports. "The Bugatti Type 35 was the world's first purpose-designed and engineered race car. Unlike everything that had gone before, it was not a road car modified for racing, although it also served as a very fine road car," said Luigi Galli, specialist for heritage and certification at Bugatti. "The meticulous approach Ettore Bugatti took to the overall concept - and to every minute detail - resulted in a car that set previously inconceivable standards for design, engineering, materials, handling, and performance. The Bugatti Type 35 gave birth to the Grand Prix era and forced other motor manufacturers to completely rethink their approach." Among the groundbreaking features of the Type 35 were its alloy wheels, which had less unsprung weight than its contemporaries' wired sets. The car itself was sleek and sat low to the ground, while its rear suspension was hidden to reduce drag. The Type 35 was class-leading in terms of performance. It had a 2.0-liter in-line eight-cylinder engine at launch. It was eventually supercharged and enlarged to 2.3 liters, enabling up to 89 horsepower and a redline as high as 6,000 rpm, more than enough for the race car's measly 1,653-pound weight, thanks to the lightweight chassis and unconventional rear axle design (...).

As motoring journalist Ed McDonough revealed in the March 2020 issue of Auto Italia after experiencing the 6CM at Brooklands, “It’s stunning up through the gears, that straight-six humming very smoothly…I love being able to hang out the side going into and out of corners. The new season of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) starts this weekend and promises to be extremely interesting. My gaze is directed towards the Hypercar class, which has proven to be an incredible success since its introduction. Indeed, this season our improved GR010 HYBRID will be up against a record number of rivals. 19 crews in the top category, with Alpine, BMW, Cadillac, Ferrari, Peugeot and Porsche in charge, sounds like excellent racing. For us Poles, an extra treat will be the performance of Robert Kubica. The competition will therefore be more demanding than ever, and Toyota has some bills to settle. Last season it won the world championship, but failed to win the 24h Le Mans, which is an obvious target for this year. For the new season, our race cars have not only received improvements, but also brand new colours in which they look insane. I am looking forward to this competition, as endurance racing teaches patience, perseverance and strategic thinking. Victory does not always belong to the fastest vehicle at the start, but to the one that can adapt to changing conditions, manage resources and cross the finish line first, regardless of the obstacles. This philosophy of constant adaptation and pursuit of excellence is what has driven Toyota's successes over the years 💪 And let us not forget the technological innovations being introduced in our cars, which come from the efforts of many on the track.
