📣Orthex earns top score A- in the CDP climate reporting✨🌳 Orthex’s climate work was recognised with a Leadership level A- score in the global CDP rating for the first time. The CDP’s annual program is a globally recognised benchmark that ranks the efforts of investors, companies, cities, states, and regions to manage their environmental impact. Companies receiving a Leadership level score must demonstrate both awareness of their impact on the environment, and commitment to reduce emissions to keep global warming below 1.5°C in accordance with the Paris Agreement. “We have an ambitious target to reduce our emissions, and we work systematically to reach this target. We are very pleased that our hard work is recognised in the CDP rating. This encourages us on our journey towards carbon neutral production by 2030,” says Hanna Kukkonen, Orthex’s Chief Marketing and Sustainability Officer. Human Behavior are Causing Global Warming and Degrading Planet Earth Human behavior is driving and causing global warming and environmental degradation. The release of greenhouse gases, primarily from burning fossil fuels for energy, transportation, and industrial uses, is a major contributing factor impacting global warming. These gases trap heat in the Earth’s atmosphere, leading to elevated rise in surface temperature and driving our climate change that is now visible and experienced everywhere. Behaviors such as deforestation, engaging in unsustainable agricultural practices, and waste generation do play a significant role in degrading our environment. Deforestation reduces the Earth’s ability to absorb carbon dioxide, contributing to the increase in greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere. Agricultural practices that require excessive use of land degradation and chemicals impact biodiversity and water resources. Improper waste disposal is also a major contributor to pollution of land, water, and air, further harming ecosystems and human health. To address these challenges, it is imperative that we promote and engage in sustainable behaviors and practices at the individual, collective, corporate and government levels. This requires reducing our carbon footprints through energy efficiency, transitioning to renewable energy sources, promoting sustainable land use and agriculture , and improving waste management practices. Education, begining at an early age, about conservation practices and rewarding pro-environment behaviors. Policy interventions that are practical and enforceable with clear consequences for following or not following the rules. Development of international cooperation is a must since we are in this together. These practices, if we all engage in them, can mitigate human-induced climate change and environmental degradation. This #EarthDay we're celebrating reaching a new milestone on our sustainability journey! 🌱 We're proud to announce that Clarasys’ near and long-term net-zero target has been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The SBTi is a collaboration between the CDP, United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute, and WWF. It defines and promotes best practice in science-based target setting and independently assesses companies’ targets. By establishing these targets, we've set out a clear pathway to ensure that we operate in a way consistent with limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees. As a consulting firm, we recognise that the most impactful way we can contribute towards mitigating the worst effects of climate change is by influencing our clients to take action, however we don't want to just talk about change; we want to make it happen for ourselves too. As we continue on this path, we invite our community, partners, and clients to join us in building capacity for the transformation that's needed. Today we celebrate the Sustainability national day in Portugal, which stands as the 9th aniversary of the UN General Assembly that approved the Agenda for 2030 integrating the Sustainability Development Goals. It also stands out as the period where the Paris Agreement and compromise from Nations accounting over 55% of the Greenhouse Gas worldwide Emissions to keep global warming below 1.5° were secured. Finally, today the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive completes 2 months after entering in force. We welcome the new and renewed efforts from Nations gathered for the Summit of the Future under the UN auspicious, for a more sustainable, fair and equitative future. The science is clear: we need to limit the global warming to 1.5°C. To achieve this, companies need to take #ClimateAction. Outokumpu has achieved an impressive 27% reduction in emission intensity across our direct, indirect, and supply chain emissions from 2016 to 2023 by focusing on four key drivers: ♻️ High recycled material content ⚡ Increased energy efficiency 💨 Using low-carbon energy 👌 Improvements in our processes These actions demonstrate that we are on track toward our ambitious climate targets, which were approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and aligned with the 1.5°C climate target. By 2030, Outokumpu is committed to reducing its emission intensity by 42% from a 2016 baseline. Our net-zero targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This is testament to thorough data collection, emissions calculations, and the development of an ambitious but achievable net-zero programme, developed with sustainability consultants - Inspired PLC 👏 Our overall net-zero target date of 2045, and interim scope 1 and 2 target of 42% reduction by 2030 were validated, meaning these emissions reductions targets are in line with the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5ºC. Mitigation: Building a Climate-Resilient Future Together Climate change affects every part of the globe, bringing extreme weather, rising temperatures, and ecosystem disruptions. Mitigation involves tackling these issues by improving energy efficiency, investing in renewable technologies, and promoting sustainable agriculture to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. According to IPCC, to limit global warming to the critical threshold of 1.5°C, it is imperative for the world to undertake significant mitigation action. This requires a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 45 percent before 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions by mid-century.
