Yesterday, I started interviewing the senior leaders at one of our client companies. The goal? To pinpoint the skill gaps they need to fill this year to not just meet, but exceed their ambitious goals for 2024. We're creating a custom training program to help their senior leaders grow. But that's not the norm. Most companies cut training and development budgets for this year. Most employees and leaders feel they're being asked to do more with less and they aren't developing the skills they need to stay competitive. A lot of employees tell me they feel their skills are outdated, they're overwhelmed with busy work, and or are simply unable to focus on development. As a result, year after year, they fall further behind their industry peers. Don't let that be your team. Set them up for success. Invest time (and money, if you can) in their growth and development. After all, ALL of your growth is driven by your people. Here's a quick exercise that will help: Ask every employee: What are the top 3 skills you need to learn in 2024 to do your job better? To be more successful? To feel more confident? What are you doing to close the skills gap in your organization?
