Dean had suffered acid reflux and persistent cough for much of his adult life - it was something he thought was an everyday occurrence. He was a wonderful husband to Jo and friend to many - including his hairdressing clients. As Jo says - “Dean was my husband, kindred spirit, soul mate, and my very best friend. He was my sun and my life circled around him drawn by his contagious mischievous energy. We literally did everything together, as we had so many common interests, friends and did so for 28 brilliant years together.” In 2019 things started to change with Dean’s health and tests uncovered the awful truth that he had stage 4 oesophageal cancer. He died in October 2020 with Jo by his side. Read more about Dean and Jo’s story on our website: https://lnkd.in/ev-siY4E This is Oesophageal Cancer Awareness Month, please join us in #demandinghope for better outcomes for people with Barrett’s oesophagus and oesophageal cancer. These are two great tips for parents who have cancer.
I moderated a panel this weekend about parenting through cancer and was honored to be on the stage with Jeff Hlaveck, founder of the Pickles Group, and renowned patient advocate Jill Feldman. Both are cancer survivors and parents. What were my takeaways? (1) Control the message. Share with your friends and family how you are speaking with your kids about your cancer, so they are using similar language and approaches. This creates a more cohesive support system for your child. (2) This doesn't ever get easier for children - keep the dialogue open. Through remission or loss, a parent's cancer weighs on them - every single day. Let's keep talking about parental cancer and the importance of caring for kids.

Year 3 of Movember! Last year, this cause hit close to home as I was diagnosed with testicular cancer. My main goal is to spread awareness and start conversations. To all the men out there, I can't stress how important it is to check your pair regularly - early detection can save your life. If you ever want to talk, feel free to reach out. For those who would like to further support the cause with a donation, I've included my Mo page below. The Movember Foundation aims to raise awareness about three of the biggest health risks affecting men: prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health issues. Support my Mo - save a bro! https://lnkd.in/gex8BSGW

A few days before my 13 year old Daughter died from brain cancer, I made the biggest promise to my Ashley. I held her precious hand with tears in my eyes because I knew my Ashley would leave Earth soon. I promised my Ashley that I will continue to fight for her & help as many Children as I possibly can who are battling this devastating disease. Just a few months after my Ashley died, I had to get to work, make my promise come to life & founded Cancer Response Team, Inc. to do just that. Helping Children fight cancer. Your Follow & Repost would mean so much to keep our Ashley’s story alive & give our #ChildhoodCancer Warriors a voice they so desperately need. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support. Your friend, Stefan Moore

Every day, countless breast cancer patients must choose between paying rent or affording life-saving treatment. This is where financial toxicity threatens the lives of breast cancer patients everywhere. In an exclusive new report, Susan G. Komen’s Patient Care Center identified housing, transportation and utilities as the top financial needs for patients as they carry the weight of medical costs. What may seem like the simplest living expense can pose a life-threatening ultimatum for patients who often delay or forgo care. Through Komen’s Financial Assistance Program and the generosity of our donors, families across the U.S. receive vital financial assistance—but it’s not enough. Long-term solutions are desperately needed for tens of thousands of people facing breast cancer. Read Komen’s full report: https://bit.ly/3ZGF3xm

60 years ago, childhood cancer was a death sentence. Today, 8 out of 10 children will survive. But there is much work to be done. Medical research is how we will cure all children of cancer. Our research takes a multi-pronged approach to tackling childhood cancer. Whether it’s investigating causes and prevention, improving diagnosis and monitoring, or developing better treatments, our research is all about improving the lives of children and their families. This #ChildhoodCancerAwarenessMonth we encourage you to donate $1 for every precious year of life you have been lucky enough to live, and help children beat cancer. https://lnkd.in/gHMQ7in8 #CuringChildhoodCancer #ItsNotIfItsWhen
