Actions Speak Louder Than Words Implementation > Ideas I recently choreographed an event featuring various performing artists. I had to assemble a team of dancers for different locations and times throughout the event day. During one planning meeting, I mentioned to the event manager that since the theme was #SummerReign, it would be fitting to incorporate a more regal and royal element. I proposed placing thrones around the venue, especially on the red carpet in front of the branding, to encourage people to take photos. Having mentioned this in passing, I didn’t expect much. To my amazement, when I arrived at the event with my team, there were beautifully decorated thrones strategically placed around the venue. We enhanced this attraction by having our dancers, in their captivating costumes, perform near the thrones, encouraging more people to take photos with the performers. This demonstrated the event manager’s strong leadership and listening skills; but more importantly, they implemented the idea. Not only did I feel heard and valued, but I also felt compelled to work with them again. Most importantly, the event manager showed a commitment to action, ensuring the best experience for attendees and the best value for the end client. #TheCreativeGuy #EventManager #Events #Leadership #Eventing 📸: You can see one of the thrones on the red carpet in the picture.

Leadership Development Specialist & Career Management | Applied Theatre & Mindfulness | Author of The Career Stories Method | LinkedIn Top Voice 2019 & 2024 | M.Ed
About 15 years ago, a student from my “Acting for Film” class arrived early because he wanted to thank me. He said, “I need to thank you. I got a promotion at work and it’s because of this class.” He continued, “I’ve been taking what you teach in class about how to be in my body, how to listen, strategic pauses when I speak, and they noticed. I’ve been vying for a promotion for years. But the leadership team called me this week and said there is something different about me. I accepted the role. Thank you.” There are likely more than two lessons from this story, but I take two. 1. Often we think we need to do deep searching and hard work to figure out our careers. Honestly, many times if you consistently do the work you love well, people will make their own connections and gift you insights about where you could move next. Before him, I thought I’d teach at the professional theatre my whole life. I hadn’t connected it to helping leaders show up better. 2. Integration. I taught a lot of theatre & film classes (a decade worth) before I taught applied theatre for leaders. Not many others took what they learned in the class & applied the tools and practices into the rest of their life or work. They kept them separate. Learning is fun and good, integration changes you and your work, and is often where the magic happens. #careerstories #appliedtheatre #leadershipdevelopment #leadership

Scottish Opera, Alex Reedijk, Vivienne Wood, INSPIRING CHANGEMAKERS LTD, Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, #risingstars #leadershipdevelopment We are now half way through the Autumn programme of Rising Stars Flourish, Leadership Development Programme. Another terrific group of up and coming people who want to improve and develop their leadership skills, attributes and behaviours - more on that later. First though to thank once again, Scottish Opera, Alex and Vivienne for hosting our midpoint day at the Production Studios. What privileged access we were given behind the scenes. What a wealth and depth of #talent and #expertise we have here in #Glasgow. #Creators, #makers, #craftspeople, #artisans, #technicians of all types of skills. Lighting, sound, wigmaking, costume making, scenery building and painting and so much more. And not only at Scottish Opera but across the creative, arts and performance sector. #Glasgow is really and rightly recognised as a centre of excellence. But on this day, and throughout the first half of the programme - what are we learning? Well one thing which is hugely disappointing, is that in too many instances, people are still experiencing bad #attitudes and #behaviours in the workplace and from those in #leadership positions. This causes so much stress, anxiety and adversely affects performance at work, as well as negatively impacting people's wellbeing and home life. We talk and hear much, about #culture in organisations (and from our speakers too), but culture and organisations are 'things' - and it's people who form organisations, and who are responsible for the culture, attitudes and behaviours which prevail. Have the #courage to call bad behaviours to account. #Lead by example. How hard is it to act and lead with empathy, kindness and encouragement? Our discussions and learning continues, with us all holding up the mirror on our own attitudes, behaviours and leadership practice. But our team are hugely encouraged by the alumni of our programmes and their development progress, and that they are taking fresh thinking and better practice back in to the world of work.

Vice President, Sales and Marketing at Eurofins Viracor ★ Purveyor of Peak Performance and Enhanced Value through Authentic Leadership, Strategic Focus and WaaS ★ Tech Sherpa in Genomic, Genetic and Molecular Medicine
Always work to become a R⭕️CK ⭐️ at whatever you do. This will expand your influence. Take hold of the idea that whatever you do — whatever you have been called to and are responsible for — you are there to perform like an artist. While you might not receive the amount of recognition, accolades, applause or exposure as the stars of stage and screen, the work you do is the same as any Oscar, Emmy or Grammy award winner performing their art. Last night, the ladies next to us were very entertaining at dinner. Really working the staff and each other with story upon revelatory story. It made us want more. It made us want to hear them again. They should’ve been doing standup…. It was a show…an event. In the market, you are a performer as well as a salesperson, leader or teammate, and what you are delivering is the enjoyment the audience receives as a result of your stage presence. By doing whatever you do remarkably well, you make yourself Standout as relevant, remarkable and Unforgettable. You will create raving fans for life, and you just might make yourself rich and famous. The world is deeply in need of truly great performers – those who take their art seriously, who understand the power of personality and who actively work to not only Standout from the crowd but to dazzle, Amaze and delight their audience. Convert one skeptic into a believer, and not only will you have a happy customer, you’ll have also created a performance worth talking about. You will enjoy a much fuller life, and you will build some incredible experiences. #rockstar #perform #performance #performanceart #blackhistorymonth

A new post on a story that never gets old… 🎻 **When Talent Goes Unnoticed: The Joshua Bell Story** 🎻 Did you know that world-renowned violinist Joshua Bell once performed incognito in a New York City subway station, and hardly anyone noticed him? Just days earlier, he had played to a sold-out theater where patrons paid hundreds of dollars to hear him. This striking contrast highlights a crucial lesson: Environment Matters. Many of us, like Joshua Bell in the subway, find ourselves in places where our talents, hard work, and dedication go unrecognized. We give our all, yet the appreciation and rewards don't seem to follow. The key takeaway? Know your worth and go where you are valued. When you arm yourself with value and confidence, and remove yourself from an environment that isn't serving you, you begin to thrive and grow. Surround yourself with those who recognize and appreciate your contributions. It’s in these environments that you can truly shine. Don't settle for less. Go where you are appreciated, valued, and can make the impact you are destined to achieve. #KnowYourWorth #ValueYourself #GoWhereYouAreAppreciated #JoshuaBell #Motivation #Inspiration

Puccini’s compelling opera, “Madama Butterfly,” weaves a tragic tale of love and sacrifice. However, it has relevance and important lessons for the modern corporate environment even outside of the stage. Let's investigate: 🌎 International Cooperation: Recognizing cultural differences is crucial, not simply good to have. It encourages productive cross-border collaboration, which reduces costs and opens up access to a variety of talent pools. 🌟 Leadership Adaptation: When it comes to management styles, there is no one size fits all solution. Adapting our strategies to cultural norms promotes employee engagement and increases corporate effectiveness. 🌈 Embracing Diversity: Diverse cultures present opportunities rather than challenges. It fosters creativity, ignites innovation, and establishes a welcoming atmosphere where workers flourish. Let's enjoy the differences between us! #RoyalOperaHouse #MadamaButterfly #ScopeCinemas #Layup #opera #love #sacrifice #culturaldifferences #leadership #management #diversity #creativity #innovation #employeeengagement

Co-founder & CEO of Neighbourgood. A collection of hotels, homes and workspaces inspired by community and the cities we love.
Be like Katy Perry! It’s not often I recommend that people follow the actions of an iconic pop star. But watch this scene and you will understand why. In this short clip or her documentary she’s battling all sorts of emotions below the stage getting ready to perform for a crowd of thousands of people (who have no idea of how she is feeling). Just as she’s about to go on stage, she pulls herself together in the most incredible way. In the hospitality space (and in all businesses, the guest who’s paying to stay at one of our homes or workspaces (or a customer who’s paying for a product or service) has an expectation to be met. At Neighbourgood, not only do we need to get the basics right but at a culture level one of our values is to treat people with the warmth and kindess they deserve. To leave people better then we find them. It’s codified, and that’s who we are. As human beings we all have a lot going on. Emotions run high and low, we feel depleted at times, frustrated, and even angry! Things are happening behind the scenes that no one knows about and it’s hard to bring your A game to work every day when you feel that way. But… to create exceptional guest experiences (in our instance), and to make giant leaps of progress in a professional setting, managing your emotions and how you feel is absolutely critical to delivering your best performance. Being able to seperate how you feel below the line (and in Katy’s instance, below the stage) from the task at hand, all day, every day, to deliver a truly expectational performance is what makes people superstars. So I will say it again- Be like Katy Perry! And if you can find the time watch the clip below. It speaks volumes. Have an exceptional week Neighbours 🩵💙❤️

power the GOOD as CEO of cityCURRENT, VP with Higginbotham, producer and host of tv and radio shows and ChangeMakers podcast, author of 2 books and speaker
Love this short video featuring our Higginbotham teammate, Amanda Quinn, because 1) it shows you can apply different skills and passions from the arts or other industries and be successful in business, which provides hope and inspiration to others wondering how to apply what they are learning or have learned and where that will lead them; 2) it shows real leadership and mentorship, which is the hard work and heart work of really pouring into someone, which has been the foundation for success with our company since the very beginning and something I likewise have benefited so greatly from with Johnny Pitts, as well…my story is similar to Amanda’s story in many ways…and so are many others on our team; 3) it shows a commitment to growth and the willingness to step out of a comfort zone to do more, achieve more, push yourself more, take on more responsibility and add more value to the team and organization and how raising your hand to be more of a leader and earning that right can pay off with new career opportunities and success! These are just three reasons but it shows the importance of investing in your people and giving them a chance to grow and develop into the leaders who will carry the company to new heights. Way to go Amanda! We certainly do have a great team and company! https://lnkd.in/eGv6becS
