Through the Flood Resilience Measurement for Communities process, Cruz Roja Mexicana I.A.P. identified community brigades as an approach to strengthen flood resilience in Tabasco. So how do community brigades increase resilience? 1. Equips volunteers with the knowledge and skills required to prepare for floods. 2. Builds community cohesion through the brigade members working as a team to identify the best ways to respond to floods. 3. Knowledge and skills are replicated over time in the community as preparedness activities become part of daily routines. 4. Encourages more community members to volunteer as part of the brigades. 5. By relaying details about the situation on the ground, community brigades can act as a bridge between local communities and municipal authorities.
