As we celebrate Women’s History Month, we have the privilege of spotlighting the contributions of a few of the remarkable women at O’Hara’s Son Roofing (OSR). In this short interview, we have the honor of speaking with LisaMarie M., a branch manager at OSR. Lisa exemplifies the resilience, expertise, and innovation that women bring to the forefront of a traditionally male-dominated industry. Lisa Martin Service Branch Manager OSR NJ Branch: Serving the North-East Region 1. What led you to a career in roofing? Expanding into an existing family business by utilizing women’s business incentive programs significantly fostered my successful career in the roofing industry as a woman. The roofing field’s allure, technical knowledge, problem-solving, and the opportunity to contribute to large-scale projects, drew me in and sparked my passion for this industry. 2. What have been your barriers and how did you overcome them? Throughout my career in a male-dominated field, I faced barriers such as gender biases, limited networking opportunities, and the need for consistent self-validation. To overcome these challenges, I sought mentorship and support networks, attended industry events to learn from others, and focused on proving my expertise through quality work and building relationships. My resilience, determination, and continuous self-improvement allowed me to gradually gain trust, respect, and success. 3. What woman in history inspires you most and why? Emily Warren Roebling is an inspirational figure for women in male-dominated roles. Despite societal expectations, she oversaw the completion of the Brooklyn Bridge when her husband fell ill. Facing discrimination, she took on the challenge, demonstrating intelligence, determination, and problem-solving skills. Her achievements break barriers, showcase women’s capabilities, and inspire future generations to pursue their passions. Emily’s legacy embodies the power of perseverance and serves as a reminder of the significant contributions women can make in any field, irrespective of societal expectations. Check back next week for the last of the four interviews! #commercialroofing #nwir #nawic #womenshistorymonth #OSR #inspiration

We couldn't let Women's History Month pass by without recognizing the amazing Women of FORT Structures. In an industry that is still predominantly male, we see, value, and recognize the unique perspectives, accomplishments, and experiences of the women on our team. FORT's own Paula Wright, PE had this to say about being a woman in the engineering field: "There are many hurdles ahead for women in engineering. I compare those hurdles to the constant engineering challenge of pushing the boundaries for more efficient and eco-friendly designs. The beauty is in the process and in the endurance of climbing over the hurdles. Together, women in engineering, and women in FORT can accomplish anything." #womenshistorymonth #womeninengineering #structuralengineering

It's great to see the Global Centre Of Rail Excellence feature in the 2023 Annual Report of Women in Rail out this week. Building the railway of tomorrow – the industry with equality, diversity and inclusion at its heart – will need clear and long-term commitment from us all. GCRE is committed to playing its part in that work and to being a positive advocate for the changes we need to see in the rail industry. Some of the early steps we have taken at GCRE include: - Building diversity into the senior structures of the GCRE organisation, including ensuring that 50% of the GCRE board are female and led by a female Chair, Dr Debra Williams. - Committing to tangible actions in our own organisation by signing the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion charter with a member of our senior leadership team, appointed as our EDI Champion. - Funding the development of the Primary Engineer programme in local schools to help get young people interested in engineering and encourage a more diverse range of people into rail. - Playing a leadership role in advocating for wider changes in the industry by organising jointly with Women in Rail and Young Rail Professionals (YRP) a conference at the GCRE site, exploring ways to improve diversity and equality in the sector. We are looking forward to taking this work on further in the next 12 months. Link to the Wales report on page 27: https://lnkd.in/ezW4f2UY #EDI #Equality #Diversity #Inclusion

Amazing leadership is the secret ingredient that propels companies to greatness! Based on my personal experience, I have observed firsthand how significant a role leadership plays in driving organizations toward achieving remarkable success. When leaders inspire, motivate, and empower their teams, they create an unstoppable force that can overcome any challenge and accomplish extraordinary outcomes. True leaders understand that success is not only about profits and market dominance but also about establishing a positive and inclusive work culture. They prioritize the growth and development of their employees, encouraging them to unleash their full potential. Investing in leadership development is crucial for building successful companies that can withstand any challenge. This is not just about achieving financial goals, but also about creating a work environment where every employee is appreciated, empowered, and motivated to perform their best every day. MxV Rail is honored that Railway Age has chosen Kari Gonzales as she inspires greatness, drives innovation, and cultivates success. Congratulations and well deserved! #LeadershipMatters #UnstoppableCompanies #Inspiration #Success #GrowthMindset #MxVRail
