🪱 EARTHWORMS OF THE WORLD 🪱 Dr Sam James | 25 Mar 2023 | Worms of the World Earlier this year we hosted my first virtual symposium: Worms of the World. Headlining this event was the wonderful Dr Sam James - a globetrotting earthworm taxonomist who has described new earthworm species in all sizes and colours (including the mysterious Fried Eggs Worm from the Phillipines). In this presentation, Sam gives us a tour of the earthworm families of the world, demonstrates how they are related and tells us tales from his expeditions. https://lnkd.in/enCATDu7

Bettering The Marine World, Thus Our World Hi, I am Chingmay. Welcome to my space here. Good actions are like our universe, there are no limits and boundaries. When I was little, I always wanted to help people on a grand scale. That’s why I studied International Relations and languages hoping to join the United Nations or some big international NGOs. As I grow older, I realize that we don’t need to go beyond our boundaries to help and make people happy. If every one of us behaves kindly and helps our friends and family in different shapes and forms, we are already making the world a better place. Therefore, my space here is for sharing and inspiring nice actions of all scales, especially small initiatives. Small services and gestures of kindness and compassion matter more than we believe. In this episode, I will talk about what inspired my Chilean husband, Juan Carlos Astudillo, also known as JC, a marine biologist working in Hong Kong to create a vibrant marine community so that we, the land and sea, creatures, including humans, can benefit from it. He is currently involved in an eco-engineering seawall project that helps bring back intertidal marine species that were eradicated by land reclamation. Juan Carlos Astudillo P I hope this episode is inspiring for you. In the next episode, I will talk about how a young girl uses her violin to occasionally contribute to the community, not on a grand scale. Still, it’s a small initiative worth being known. I also hope that I’ll get to know your nice initiative. Please contact me if you are doing anything that is helping our community or making people happy. It could be as simple as bringing a smile to people’s faces. #community #marineworld #ecology #ecoengineering #artificialshoreline #marinebiology #marinebiologist #marineecology #marineecologist #gooddeed #seawall

Many of us have attended conferences that begin with an acknowledgement of the original owners of the land. Let's imagine a time in the future when Earth is the site of an interplanetary conference - would any of our rituals be remembered by the aliens? What would the attendees think of us? Thanks to MiniMag for publishing my latest poem (as Jan Lee) in Issue 103. Download the full piece here: https://lnkd.in/g-C6eH-9
