Metro Atlanta is a center for jobs in AI, digital technology, and data engineering – that position was strengthened this week with Cargill’s announcement that they will hire 400 workers for a new digital technology and data office in Midtown Atlanta. The country’s largest privately held food producer selected the location based on the region’s rich pool of technical talent and expertise. Welcome!

All #NatWest colleagues can use 2 days off each year to focus on future skills development. So, today I have spent a day to develop new skills in understanding data visualization, which is in my opinion crucial in today’s data-driven world. Although there are abundant amounts of data collected within organizations accounting to a substantial information value, most people lack the ability to exploit its full potential. Therefore, this ability is invaluable across industries, fostering better communication, data-driven strategies, and innovation. This is why we should practice the art of learning for the future skills.

"Imagine if you found out that your analytics software had a bug and all the reports it was creating were faulty somehow. Would you trust the data if you were uncertain about it? Would you trust the historical data? Would your stakeholders trust the insights if they doubted the validity of the source? Experimentation programs also run into similar "bugs" - sometimes by design, sometimes deliberately, sometimes because of the rush to get to where they need to be. Experimentation Programs that have prioritised running fast and scaling up too quickly are now suddenly faced with challenges like 1. Different teams running their own processes 2. Lack of standardisation when it comes to reporting 3. Cherry picking results This will only scale chaos in the long term. The way to solve this is Governance and establishing clear frameworks of checks and balances to prevent these issues from coming up." By Manuel Da Costa. In this week's Speero's best personal post — where we celebrate the opinions and innovations from experts in data and experimentation.

Don't miss this great article from Matthew Wurst, Senior Director of Software Engineering at Accolade, Inc. about how their team leverages data observability to proactively monitor their data pipelines. 🔥 Some highlights: "To tackle potential data latency, we’ve rolled out an advanced monitoring framework in collaboration with Monte Carlo. This partnership empowers us to take a proactive approach towards data analysis... To manage reliability of these systems we use scenarios within the [utilization management] (UM) data pipeline as a foundation for constructing monitors." "Experience – and more importantly trust – is crucial in ensuring that the data we use is accurate and reliable, but confidence is equally important. Confidence in our data sources and handling methods allows us to make bold decisions and take calculated risks." Check out the full article to learn more: https://lnkd.in/gFd3uZiC

Does your data use pass the pub test? While the saying might be a bit dated, the concept remains highly relevant, especially with the upcoming 'fair and reasonable' test for the Privacy Act in Australia. Organisations should go beyond merely asking, 'Is it legal?' when it comes to data usage, to ensure they are doing right by their customers. This mindset is why we were so pumped recently to have Hannah N. join the team at DataCo Technologies. Not only does she possess a rare skill set that combines deep legal knowledge with a commercial mindset, but her core ethical values also align perfectly with our mission: creating new shared value by enabling the safe and responsible use of data between organisations. We recently had her on DataConversations to share some of her valuable experience and way of thinking. Check out the full episode in the comments below 👇
