Recently, I applied for a job working as a computer science instructor for the fall and got accepted. Then I realized that I would be adding another 2-3 hours on the computer on top of my college classes which are already heavily dependent on online material. It would be so much strain on my eyes every day! I ended up missing my job last semester preparing and serving delicious dishes at University of Massachusetts Amherst's Worcester Cafeteria. The experience taught me countless invaluable skills, including time management, handling kitchen tools, and making sure customers were pleased with my service. I even took what I've learned home when I cook. Working at the cafeteria helped me to overcome the feeling of being overwhelmed by schoolwork as I pushed away my stress by chopping vegetables and restocking food supplies. I also learned one more invaluable thing - how hard my parents and countless other adults across our nation work standing on feet all day. In this age of digital technology, it is easy for the young generation to remain at a distance from manual labor and those who do it. Even though the pay is relatively low, I'm lucky to have learned how good it feels to work intensely and meet such kind people while doing so. Lastly, I can compare my experiences teaching kids CS and serving people at the cafeteria. I really enjoyed my job as an instructor helping youth, but there is simply no experience comparable to real, honest physical labor. This experience also taught me the importance of setting boundaries on screen time, which even many professionials struggle with, and consciously deciding to choose jobs that are centered in the real world instead. Henceforth, I'm looking forward to working as a server this fall! #work #experience #umassamherst #cafeteria #server #timemanagement #physicallabor #remotework #studying #screentime

IF YOU ARE NOT PART OF A PERMANENT AND LASTING SOLUTION TO THE AFFORDABLE HOUSING CRISIS AND HOMELESSNESS, YOU ARE THE PROBLEM! THE AFFORDABLE HOUSING INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX IS BROKEN AND NOT WORKING FOR AMERICAN TAXPAYERS Veteran Housing Corp would ask every TAXPAYER to demand and get answers from their elected and appointed government officials the below questions as they relate to any affordable, workforce, or supportive housing project in your community! 1. How much local, state, and federal funding, tax credits, or other government benefits or incentives did the project receive? 2. What is the affordability period for each project? Is the affordability period permanent and in perpetuity? 3. What guarantees exist have your local, state, and federal government officials obtained in writing that rents will not go up or that tenants will not be displaced or evicted after the "affordability period expires? Every local, state, and federal housing authority and affordable or workforce housing stakeholder should adopt the State of Vermont's "permanent affordability" policy as a model for all future government funded or subsidized housing projects or developments, no exceptions! https://lnkd.in/eFEUC8c8 Additionally, local, state and federal housing agencies should look to the Helsinki, FINLAND MODEL of ending homelessness by providing affordable housing for all 'It’s a miracle': Helsinki's radical solution to homelessness https://lnkd.in/er9HZSQU Even the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development AGREES THAT adopting FINLAND'S MODEL OF ERADICATING HOMELESSNESS may be of great value to resolving the affordable housing and homelessness crises in America https://lnkd.in/gkSZWYRU

What's the return on investment for career advancement? You might be surprised! In partnership with the HOUSING AND REDEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY OF DULUTH, MN and True North Goodwill, the BBER just completed a case study for a single parent living in St. Louis County, Minnesota. And the results are impressive. Over the course of the person's working lifetime, the person working as a construction laborer or a registered nurse could earn a total of roughly $1.5 million and $1.9 million in after-tax income, respectively, whereas the person working as a part-time cashier could earn a total of roughly $460,000. For both career scenarios, state and federal government programs could save more than $600,000 in public assistance benefits over the course of the 35 years, as compared to the person working as a part-time cashier who would need more assistance. #workforcedevelopment #CLIFFtool #careeradvancement #careertraining

Creating industrial parks, attracting new industries, and investing in workforce development are all key strategies for stimulating economic growth. Industrial parks provide infrastructure and space for businesses to set up operations, while attracting new industries diversifies the local economy and creates job opportunities. Buc-ee's, in particular, is known for its large-scale convenience stores and travel centers, which can bring both employment opportunities and increased traffic to the area. Investing in workforce development ensures that local residents have the skills and training needed to fill the jobs created by new industries. This can involve partnerships with educational institutions, vocational training programs, or initiatives to support entrepreneurship and small business development. It's commendable that for over six decades, HCDC has been actively involved in these efforts for over six decades, contributing to the economic vitality of Harrison County, Mississippi. #harrisoncountyms #builtstrongerforbusiness #iedc

Together with other senior Administrators of Evangel University Akaeze, we plan, direct, and coordinate student instruction, administration, and #services, as well as other research and educational activities. We provide administrative support to any academic teaching department. We assist the administrative #managers in managing schedules, #budget, personnel #databases, and generating #reports. I get involved in clerical and organizational tasks like file organizing, scheduling appointments, assisting other senior Administrators and drafting correspondences or messages. I oversee the daily operations of the office, managing facilities, supplies, equipment, and coordinating administrative tasks for the entire team where needed.
