The Rodent Menace Rodents, such as rats and mice, have long been unwelcome guests in urban environments across the United States, and Houston is no exception. The warm climate, ample food sources, and shelter opportunities in the city make it an attractive destination for these pests. A few factors contribute to the rodent problem in Houston: Urban Development: Houston's rapid urbanization has led to an increase in construction activities, creating disturbances in rodent habitats. The rodents often find their way into nearby homes and businesses seeking refuge. Climate: Houston's subtropical climate provides rodents with a comfortable living environment year-round, allowing them to breed and multiply rapidly. Food Sources: The city's thriving restaurant scene and abundant food waste make it a haven for rodents looking for sustenance. Trash cans, dumpsters, and unsanitary disposal practices only exacerbate the problem. Shelter Opportunities: Abandoned buildings, cluttered storage areas, and neglected properties offer rodents ideal nesting spots. They also exploit cracks, crevices, and sewer systems for shelter.

𝐒𝐍𝐎𝐖 𝐌𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐒 𝐓𝐇𝐑𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐑𝐎𝐂𝐊𝐈𝐄𝐒 & 𝐇𝐈𝐆𝐇 𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐈𝐍𝐒 ❄️ A low making its way through the Northwest this afternoon through early Friday morning will produce a round of snow across the Northern and Central Rockies and Northern High Plains. Minor snowfall accumulations on non-paved surfaces may reach as low as 4,000 feet across portions of the Front Range and Northern High Plains in Wyoming, Nebraska, and South Dakota, but any snowfall accumulations over 1", even on paved surfaces, will be reserved for the higher elevations to the west, primarily above 8,000 feet in elevation. This means the Front Range of Colorado will miss out on any snowfall this time around. #rockies #idwx #mtwx #wywx #sdwx #utwx #cowx #newx #winter #winteriscoming #snow #snowfall #snowfighters #snowpros #snowplowing #snowremoval #snowandice #ice #deicing #brine #salt #snowandicemanagement #landscaping #landscapers #contractors #facilitymanager #facilitymanagement #facilitiesmanagement #truewx

𝐀 𝐅𝐄𝐖 𝐒𝐍𝐎𝐖𝐅𝐋𝐀𝐊𝐄𝐒 𝐈𝐍 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐍𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐒𝐓 ❄️ As this weekend's low deepens in the Gulf of Maine, it may generate some wet snowflakes across portions of the Northeast on Sunday as it pulls colder air down from Canada. Granted, the snowflake activity will be spotty, often mixed with rain, and in most cases melt on contact, nonetheless, the potential is there for parts of northern Pennsylvania, Upstate New York, Vermont, and northern New Hampshire. #northeast #newengland #pawx #nywx #vtwx #nhwx #winter #winteriscoming #snow #snowfall #snowfighters #snowpros #snowplowing #snowremoval #snowandice #ice #deicing #brine #salt #snowandicemanagement #landscaping #landscapers #contractors #facilitymanager #facilitymanagement #facilitiesmanagement #truewx

Hurricane Beryl has made landfall near Houston as a Category 1 storm with wind gusts exceeding 80 MPH! If you're near the coast, be vigilant about flooding and storm surge. Inland areas in East and Central Texas will face heavy rain (6-12 inches), strong winds, and possible tornadoes. This has prompted our governor to issue disaster declarations for 121 counties. These conditions can compromise your building's waterproofing. Roofers in Austin, Houston, and San Antonio will be extremely busy, so if you experience leaks in your roof or walls, don't wait—call us immediately at 800-749-8293. Author. Speaker. Wildfire, Emergency Management, and Design Innovation Driven by Experience, Research, and Theory.
I am interested in this system from Colorado Firebreak. In addition to protecting the structure, this is the first innovation I have encountered that protects the trees many homeowners value. This system moves beyond the issue of how to move homeowners to remove trees that could threaten their homes during a wildfire event. Instead, Colorado Firebreak uses sprinklers to protect the trees from spreading fire to the structure. At the same time, this approach should also save the trees homeowners desire. I am unaware of what the cost is for the system. For the segment of the population that can afford it, a major disincentive has been removed from taking the kind of proactive action Colorado Firebreak offers by allowing homeowners to keep their trees. That is a very impressive way to address the issue of trees encroaching on structures. I imagine that in some cases, some trees will need to be removed to give the system and the structure it is trying to save a chance. However, it will still be an improvement over an approach that does not leverage the Firebreak system and seeks to cut down many more trees. All in all, it is really interesting and offers a potential solution to a very big problem. #WUI #coloradofirebreak #firemanagement #fireadapted #resilience #wildfire #forestfire #wildlandurbaninterface
