Regernerative braking will help the breakthrough of electric vehicles (EVs) It will increase the driving range and supply loading capacity to more EVs in an existing charging grid. To regenerate electric power from the kinetic energy of an EV the first step was "regen" mode. This mode switches the motor to generator function when the foot is off the accelerator. The braking effect is comparable to the effect of a combustion motor in idle. A "real" regernerative braking is when the brake pedal is pushed and the the generator provides a real braking force proportional how strong the pedal is pushed supported by hydraulic brake when needed. In this situation an anti-lock braking system is needed especially for rear wheel drive cars. The brake force distribution is usually 60% front and 40% rear wheels.
