TAVI in low-risk patients with severe aortic stenosis compares favourably with surgical aortic valve replacement in terms of all-cause mortality or disabling stroke at 3 years.

Since May 2022, TMC has been offering patients living with Carotid Artery Disease (CAD) this minimally invasive procedure. TCAR is used to treat clogged carotid arteries, a condition that is responsible for up to one-third of strokes. During surgery, blood flow is temporarily reversed so fragments of plaque that could break off and cause a stroke are diverted away from the brain. A subdural hematoma (SDH) is a blood clot that forms against the brain, beneath the thin covering of the brain called the dura mater. The most common causes of SDH are head injuries such as car accidents and falling from heights. Less commonly thy occur after small bumps on the head. Many subdural hematomas require surgery, but very small ones may be monitored to see if they resolve on their own. If the hematoma is large enough it can threaten th person’s life. If this is the case, then a neurosurgeon will perform a surgical intervention. Two common surgical techniques are craniotomy, where a section of the skull is temporarily removed to access and remove the hematoma, and burr holes, where a small hole is drilled into the skull and a tube is inserted to drain the hematoma. #subduralhematoma #hematoma #

R.N.P. = Retrograde Neuropathic Pain Following the many and recent discussions and exchanges concerning patients reporting reduced shoulder pain and improved mobility after lacertus release, I invite you to read this incredible and fascinating article highlighting the concept of retrograde neuropathic pain. We all have examples in our practice of patients whose pain disappeared after carpal tunnel surgery. However, these were cases with classic symptoms and, above all, electromyography authenticating the compression. The problem is that, in Lacertus syndrome, EMGs are almost always normal, leading to misdiagnosis in patients who are more bothered by their shoulder than the rest of their upper limbs.
