Jennifer Burak's series on video's impact in marketing made me think a bit about how People Ops and HR use video. So many people teams avoid using video for recruiting, to showcase their initiatives or to give a voice to their people because video is hard. But it doesn't have to be. We know that video beats written communications for engagement just about every time, so I put together a short series that outlines video's essential role in employee communications. It's all about showing how video resonates with people, how everyone from new hires to executives can show their true, authentic selves, and why creating all that great video content doesn't have to be so hard!

71% of HR and IC professionals struggle to get employees to engage with the corporate content. 💡 The solution to the problem is digital personalization. But how do you do it? ✅ Create personalized news feeds -> Look for intranet solutions with a social timeline that is on the subscription basis (meaning your employees will only see updates from the groups they’re subscribed to) ✅ Measure engagement with existing content -> Go and look for insights in your analytics tool. What types of content are popular among different age groups, levels of seniority, wired vs wireless employees? What are the most popular hours for consuming corporate content? If your analytics tool allows, go even further and look at how employees engage with different updates. Do they find them helpful? Do they understand the reasoning behind them? ✅ Employ the multichannel approach -> Digital preferences are a thing. No matter how hard you try, some people will stick to email or Teams as their main source of corporate updates. Let them. By implementing a multichannel approach, you can reach employees where they are. Bonus perk: By doing that, you can also get them curious enough to go and check the corporate intranet themselves (we tried it; it works). The Internal Comms Gal. Wrote the book on internal communication. Top 10 LinkedIn Creators in Ireland. Consulting, training and speaking: [email protected]
Ad | I’ve always been bothered by the different standards we use to communicate with employees versus customers. Our customers get the best, don’t they? ✅ Gorgeous graphic design ✅ Thoughtful, clever writing ✅ Beautifully designed websites And this really jars with what companies often serve up to their employees. ❌ Crap newsletters ❌ Long-winded pointless emails ❌ Intranets that make people cry This really isn’t acceptable, is it? It should be our mission as internal communicators to treat our employees with the respect they deserve, and part of this is raising the standard of internal communication. Chant this with me: 📢 If it’s not good enough for our customers, then it’s not good enough for our employees! Okay maybe the chant needs a little work but you get the gist. Watch this video to see me on my soapbox on this issue 👇 Consumer grade comms is the future of internal comms and I AM HERE FOR IT. ---------------------- Lucky for us, modern tools like Appspace can help us with this. Appspace is a workplace experience platform that can help make your comms personalised and give you an intranet that’s intuitive and actually gives employees what they need.
