Reflecting on a Journey: Embracing Optimism, Learning from Failures, and Valuing Connections
Recently, I was inspired by Mark Rober's commencement speech at MIT (https://lnkd.in/dmb6_FQE). His insights resonate deeply with my personal and professional journey, especially as I aspire to evolve beyond the realm of coding.
🌟 Embracing Naive Optimism: Rober's concept of "naive optimism" struck a chord with me. It's about stepping into challenges with a fresh, hopeful perspective, acknowledging that not knowing everything opens doors to innovative thinking and problem-solving. In my career, this approach has often been a guiding light – leading me to take risks and embrace opportunities that I might have otherwise overlooked.
💡 Learning from Failures: Rober highlighted the importance of framing failures as opportunities for growth. Each mistake, much like every bug in a code, is a lesson in disguise. This philosophy has been instrumental in my development as a professional. It's not about the setbacks, but how we bounce back from them, learn, and improve.
🤝 The Power of Relationships: The speech also emphasized the importance of nurturing relationships. In the tech world, it’s easy to get lost in lines of code and forget the human element. But it's the connections with others that truly drive innovation and change. My journey has been enriched by mentors, colleagues, and the community. They've not only supported my growth but also reminded me of the impact we can have when we work together.
🚀 Beyond Coding: As Rober seamlessly transitioned from engineering to content creation, it reminds me of my own aspirations. I don't just want to write code; I want to use my skills to contribute more meaningfully to the world. This speech was a reaffirmation of my belief that technology, coupled with creativity, ambition, and a deep understanding of human needs, can lead to extraordinary outcomes.
Mark Rober’s speech is a reminder that our journeys are not just about the technical skills we acquire but also about the mindset we cultivate and the relationships we build. As I continue my professional journey, I am more committed than ever to embracing optimism, learning from every experience, and fostering connections that transcend the ordinary.

The Supreme Court E-Library
The SC E-Library, part of the Judicial Reform Support Project (JRSP) of the Supreme Court was conceived on April 2, 2004 when Justice Antonio T. Carpio volunteered to be the Chairperson of the Library and Printing Committee. The Library and Printing Committee was subsequently merged with the Committee on Computerization, chaired by Justice Carpio and was called as Committee on Computerization and Library (CCL).
The CD version containing decisions of the Supreme Court from 1996 to September 2004 was launched during the Philippine Judges Convention in Iloilo City in October 2004. The E-Library on-line version was launched on November 19, 2004 at the Pan Pacific Hotel.
On June 1, 2012, Senior Associate Justice Antonio T. Carpio directed the uploading into the E-Library the Decisions of the Supreme Court from 1901 to present and All Laws - Acts, Commonwealth Acts, Presidential Decrees, Batas Pambansa and Republic Acts from September 1900 to present. The E-Library is now the website which has the complete compilation of the sources of law, statutes and jurisprudence. In addition, it contains Court issuances from 1973 to present and Treaties 1946-2010 and Executive Issuances and information on the Chief Justices and Associate Justices of the Supreme Court.

This book explores the concept of . In this context, the will not be understood as merely something that is linked to specific tools and objects, but rather as different modes of thought. For example, the within the humanities is not just databases and big data, topic modelling and speculative visualizations; nor are the objects limited to computer games, other electronic works, or to literature and art that explicitly relate to computerization or other digital aspects. In what way do digital tools and expressions in the 1960s differ to the ubiquitous systems of our time? What kind of artistic effects does this generate? Is the present theoretical fascination for materiality an or a to a digitization? Above all: how can early modern forms such as the cabinets of curiosity, emblem books and the archival principle of pertinence contribute to the analyses of contemporary digital forms? --This text refers to the hardcover edition.
A big part of designing a workshop is minimizing what I say, getting out of the way of coaches and students so they can just do ‘stuff.’
Most teachers (and therefore student expectations) are overly obsessed with perfection.
Today I brought up the 64/4 rule. After 4% effort you might have a 64% result. Sharing this ‘failure’ seems like the wrong idea because it has so many deficiencies still. But a healthy culture will see that ‘rapid prototype’ and be able to imagine the real impact.
This feedback should be BRUTAL, not because of the low quality prototype, but because these kinds of less-than-viable products can evoke feedback about THE PROBLEM, which often still needs refinement before a real round of prototyping should begin.
Most of the time teams focus on highly visible signals. signals that are obvious are also ‘skin deep’ and instead need to be investigated for deeper root-cause.
Looking forward to sharing ideas about the competencies of innovators with Marcus “CUS” Carrion and the team at the learning symposium from our 12 mercury cohorts and 19 in-person mercury workshops.
Thanks to the support of Air University for the trip out to Edwards this week to support the Test Wing.
Test is the way!

Together with Mahdieh Zeinali, I’m excited to share the success of our recent funded project, where we received continuous support from our School Director of Teaching and Learning, David Anderson, from start to finish.
At the University Teaching Showcase 2024 conference, we had the opportunity to present our findings today. We did take a deep dive into our students' experiences with business simulations at Lincoln International Business School! 🚀
We asked our students to reflect on their engagement with the simulations to the overall impact on their understanding of the course material. The feedback was incredibly positive—44% of students rated their experience highly, with one participant noting, 'The business simulation gave me a thought understanding that how to planning, positioning and expanding the new business.'
Our survey results showed that our students loved the simulations, finding them both engaging and effective in building the skills needed to adapt to new situations.
But that’s not all! This project also gave us the chance to explore different simulation providers. We met with #Edmundo, that specializes in simulations around the SDGs, and #CompanyGame, known for their diverse range of simulations. Plus, we discovered #RETO XII, an international business simulation challenge that could be a game-changer for our future students.
One of the key takeaways?
We’ve contributed to our school’s strategy for business simulations. Moving forward, there will be budgeting for a set number of integrating simulations across multiple modules and subjects—moving beyond our current model that relies on individual staff exploration.
Exciting start of the new academic year ahead!

With the central theme of The Entrepreneurial Mindset, Dr. Deirdre Ragan and Dr. Simon Ghanat guided a lunchtime faculty training session on the integration of Entrepreneurially Minded Learning (EML) into courses. Participants engaged in a thorough exploration of this powerful framework of attitudes and behaviors, gaining valuable insights into its application for fostering critical thinking, creative problem-solving, and the generation of meaningful value. The session benefitted from discussion among faculty from multiple academic disciplines, fostering a dynamic environment of cross-pollination and collaborative course redesign informed by the principles of EML.
