October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). This month highlights what disabled people can do for you and for themselves. If and when hired. It is to also show that the disabled can accomplish anything that they set out to do with help from modern technology or from other people. It is okay to be different from one another in mind and body. Life would be boring if we all were created the same and no disabilities existed. The keyword here should be the word, Ability. The ability to be a productive member of society and to grow as an individual regardless of your disability. The Ability to make a difference for you and for me. The Ability to show that limitations can be overcome and the Ability to adapt to what life gives us. The Ability to continually grow through facing adversity. The Ability to give us continued opportunities to be successful. The Ability to hire us for a role with your company. If you are not sure how to support us or be an ally for us. Please, ask. Having a disability is not the end of the world. But it does mean that we must use more of our ability than the average person. To come out, ahead. Disability is the only subgroup that you can be a part of since birth or by a life changing event. Because of this aspect of disability, we all should work together to foster more inclusiveness, awareness, and support among each other. You should not have to fear embracing the difference in your life or in someone's life. You can only grow if you learn from the ability of another person who can help make a difference in your life. It is time to hire us. The Ability to make a difference for your company. As we begin National Disability Employment Awareness Month, I’m reminded of how much we can achieve when we come together to create truly inclusive spaces. Through my work on neuroinclusion initiatives, I’ve seen that lasting change happens when leaders, employees, and advocates unite with a shared purpose. Vulnerability plays a crucial role in these sessions. When we’re open about our experiences, both successes and challenges, it creates a space for genuine connection. This openness allows us to build trust and have the honest conversations that are necessary for making real progress in creating inclusive workplaces. Resources like those from EARN help bring these conversations to life, offering practical tools that support organizations in transforming awareness into action—empowering them to recruit, hire, and support employees with disabilities in truly inclusive ways.
