💃🏽Mansplaining. Last week, I spoke to a male investor about a deeptech radiology startup. (Spoiler: I used to be a radiologist). 🩻After the personal introductions he tells me about the startup which is developing solutions for MRI scans. He repeatedly asks me if I know that MRI scans don't involve radiation, unlike CT. And goes on to repeatedly ask me if I know that MRI scans take a lot longer to acquire than CT and that MRI scans are not easy to do in the paediatric population. 👩🏽⚕️I have already given a clear introduction saying I used to be a radiologist. I reiterated that I was previously a consultant (attending) radiologist in the NHS. So there is no need to question if I know the basics of MRI & CT. I have read thousands of CTs & MRIs over many years as a radiologist. Which is probably thousands more than he did during his previous job in......INVESTMENT BANKING?! 🤷🏽♀️Mansplaining doesn't stop even when 1) you're a female investor writing the cheque yourself or if you're 2) literally a female subject matter expert.
