So over to what you can do: Host a fundraiser: Whether it's a bake sale, a charity auction, bike ride or marathon, this is a great way to raise awareness and funds for NF2 research. Organise a walk or run: Gather your friends and family for a great way to raise awareness and funds Spread the word on social media: Share information about NF2 on social media to help raise awareness. Like, share, tag and comment are all free & great ways to spread the word & keep the world talking about NF2 Donate to our research. Consider volunteering your time to support an NF2 research organisation. Educate yourself and others: Learn more about NF2 and share your knowledge with others. By educating yourself and others, you can help raise awareness and support for this important cause. Together, we can make a difference and help find a cure for NF2. September is Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Awareness Month! Over 15 million people in the world live with a Spinal Cord Injury, and though someone might have the same injury level as another, no SCI is the same. Those with SCI face obstacles most people rarely think about. All through September, SCI Awareness Month offers opportunities to get involved. -Donate: Donations support research, support organizations, and improved accessibility. Join or organize a fundraiser to show your support. -Advocate: Support of those with SCI includes advocating on their behalf. -Share: Take to social media and share information regarding fundraisers, volunteer organizations, resources, or even your own story. -Support: Spend time with loved ones with SCI. It was great to hear from charity leaders Jenny Waldman, Amy Cody, Alexandra Johnstone and Camilla Fitzgerald at the first of several excellent panel sessions at the Bates Wells Spotlight conference this morning; this one chaired by my colleague Laura Soley. Some key takeaways: 1. We had some clear case studies of the robust and considered procedures that charities can have in place when accepting, refusing or returning donations. 2. “Scandals” relating to the morality of a donor or a donation can get a lot of public and press attention. While perhaps inevitable, this risks drawing attention away from the overwhelming majority of donors and donation success stories. There should be a “celebration of philanthropy”. 3. Further guidance from the Commission would be welcomed - particularly examples were given in relation to anonymous donations, providing practical examples which charities (particularly smaller ones with fewer resources) can rely on.

Instead of giving up, resolve to find #success by focusing on the process, not the result. Is your goal getting #organized? Start a donation box and add items you no longer love or use. September is an important month as it honors the courage of those living with SCIs and their families. However, most people don't realize the challenges that they may face - such as needing a wheelchair-adaptive home and vehicle, around-the-clock medical care, outside support, assistance, or finding wheelchair-accessible businesses. Observing National Spinal Cord Injury Month aims to spread awareness and educate the general public about SCI and help to improve the support for those living with SCI. Here are some ways you can help: ◾ Donate, join a fundraiser or organization to show your support. ◾ Become an advocate to support those with SCI. ◾ Utilize social media to share information on fundraisers, volunteer organizations, resources, or your own story. ◾ Spend time with friends or loved ones with SCI, and listen to and support their goals.
