18 months ago I came to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to ensure the selection of H2Hubs had a commercial voice with hydrogen experience. With the announcement of H2Hubs, I'm returning to the private sector to help ensure these projects and others are a success from the other side -- to prove that we aren't merely in a third hydrogen hype cycle, that this time is truly different.
I'm proud to say that I had significant impact in my time at DOE through commercial analysis of H2Hubs and other OCED funding, through co-lead-authoring the ground-breaking inaugural Hydrogen Commercial Liftoff report, and in leading the commercial analysis for 45V from the DOE recommendation. While challenging at times, it was well worth it, and I would say to anyone with energy experience that the time to do your civil service with a stint as a federal employee is now.
All that being said, the hardest work comes now to bring these hubs to life and ensure they are indeed hubs that can attract non-DOE projects, that they become a backbone of a US hydrogen ecosystem, and that other projects outside the hubs can benefit from their learning.
This is why I am returning to my consultancy and building a team to help usher in the US H2 economy (www.cleanepic.io). Expanding from my prior financial strategy and due diligence in H2, we are using my experience in the government to add support around hubs and other projects as well as helping 45V strategy for investors, developers, and others in the hydrogen ecosystem. The opportunities in hydrogen will be here, and with proper guidance from groups like ours they will find success.
If you're in energy, this is the time we can do our part to make sure this time really is different.
From the Pacific Northwest, to the Gulf Coast, to the Appalachian region—our newest Clean Hydrogen Hubs will catalyze more than $40B in private investment, create thousands of jobs, and deliver clean energy to America.
