Artistic imagination Sculpture and painting are related to the space that the artist chooses and the color that he decides. It is appropriate to point out that the space that surrounds the artistic work gives the work an aesthetic dimension, linked to the importance of the place, and this is an important issue that is involved in architectural design.

The statue of David is one of the most recognizable pieces of art and is considered a masterpiece of Renaissance sculpture. Carved by Michelangelo (Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni), it towers at 17 feet (5.17 meters) tall, took just over three years to complete, and was unveiled in 1504. It was such an impressive piece in both content and form (representing strength and beauty) that it became an icon of pride for the Florentine Republic during a time when they were fighting their surrounding rival states. Today, it confidently stands in the Gallery of the Academy of the Art of Design (Galleria dell’Accademia) in Florence. David is an inspiration to view. Even more interesting… It was turned into a work of art from a ‘discarded’ block of marble that had been quarried 40 years earlier. The stone contains a fault: microscopic holes that cause the marble to deteriorate faster than higher-quality marble. Two other sculptors started to carve it but abandoned their projects. At 26 years old, Michelangelo convinced the powers that be that he deserved the commission and was awarded the contract. That was over 500 years ago… and we’re still in awe. What does this have to do with marketing, ideas, innovation, or work? Where is the discarded marble at your business? What is that overlooked masterpiece needing a bit of mallet, chisel, and sanding? Is it a product? – You should ask to manage it. Is it an abandoned project? – You should serve as the champion. Is it a person? – You should coach them and share your success skills. I know… I know… It’s not your job, right? But that’s what everyone else is saying. Are you there to collect a paycheck or to make a difference? You don’t have to create something that stands 17 feet tall and serves as an icon of pride for your company… But wouldn’t it be cool if you did? #contentmarketing #courage

I work as a free-lance art historian/artist/writer/archivist/librarian/illustrator, &c. at The Frame Blog
The trophy frame demonstrates perhaps the carver’s greatest skill in creating a wooden sculpture with strictly defined boundaries, and in arranging a series of atttributes or symbolic objects as a flowing and balanced composition within those boundaries – objects which are nearly always represented to a great extent in the round. If the result doesn’t completely overwhelm the painting it’s designed to present with a gilded fanfare, that’s a bonus: and there are monarchs, warriors and lovers whose portraits have been reduced to mere infill by the astonishing exuberance and virtuosity of their frames. Here are the Baroque extravaganzas attributed to the carver and cabinetmaker Christian Nerger (fl.1671-1708) for the images of Christian V of Denmark and his queen, Charlotte Amalie, by the court painter, Jacob d’Agar (Rosenborg Castle, Copenhagen). They are based on Mannerist leatherwork cartouches, the corners scrolling inward like the corners of an animal hide, and the spaces between holding (for the king) crown, standards, and three lions with sceptre, orb and sword set against military trophies. The Queen’s frame has, in defiance of convention, the same crown, but instead of weapons and lions she is surrounded by three great bouquets of flowers, fruit, wheat and maize. The frames together represent the fertility of a peaceful state protected by the military power of the king. They may seem busily excessive, but consider here the background on which they hang. Against the colour and decoration of a Baroque palace interior, would an oval bust-length portrait attract any notice unless a great golden halo of sculpture were there to focus attention on the presence at its dark centre? 🧑🎨 You know what this is…It’s world famous… 🗿Of course, this is Michangelo’s, “David”. A timeless representation of the Renassaiance and the city of Florence. 🫸However, it didn’t start like that… 🕰️ In 1408, a Florence Commission purchased a huge marble slab. Several famous sculptors used it to create work including Donatello. Eventually, the commission requested a representation of “David” from “David and Goliath” using the slab. 🛑 However, after years of use, the marble itself was rejected numerous times citing it’s now POOR QUALITY. The marble then sat outside to endure the elements for over a quarter of a century. 👀Until Michaengelo came along… ☝️So, remember this next time you send a project, audition, idea, or proposal and…it goes nowhere, sits on the sidelines, or you hear “not sure this is the right time”, or you’re waiting for an email that never comes. 🖼️ Even one of the most recognizable pieces of art in the world was rejected numerous times and took decades to develop. #productioncompany #creativedirector #creativeproducer #advertising #marketing #elearning #elearningdevelopment #marketingagency #narration #marketingexecutive ##grinding #marketingmanager #creative #casting
