As we celebrate our independence – Canada Day on July 1 and Independence Day in the U.S. on July 4 – let’s take time to give thanks for the sacrifice of those who have fought for our freedom and defend it still today. And remember, there is still much to be done to ensure equity and inclusion for all people. Enjoy the weekend and please be safe! Let’s make this an incident-free holiday.

#politics Canadian political scion Justin Trudeau may need to move on but the country appears to be on the right track. Trudeau, known for his impressive speeches, appears to be more a man of style always articulating the right ideas like the Harvard men of America but with a distinctive inability to execute. The peaceful country to the north of the American Sparta should remain peaceful, skip becoming Plato’s republic to directly become Solon’s democracy, a direct one if it can. Canadian conservatives are lamenting that the Christian concept of self-sacrifice has been replaced by a growing focus on environmental concerns, essentially forming a new "religion" centered around ecological values. These are what are necessary, however, not only for Canada but for the world. Self-sacrifice and ascetic self-denial of a de jure Christian state replacing the Jeffersonian separation between Christian and State are not necessary for ecological #sustainability nor are NATO and war.

New blog post from me: My Canada does not include the #Hamas flag: "My Libertarian/Tory starting point is simple: I’d like each of you to live your best life. Attend the place of worship of your choice (or don’t), marry whom you choose, vote for whichever political candidate best reflects your own judgment and hopes for your community, peacefully assemble and say what you like in a public place (provided that it’s neither slanderous nor encourages harm to others), serve on a jury if called, join a union if you feel the need. Being free doesn’t mean you can speed through my neighbourhood, install a “peep camera” in a public bathroom, ignore codified Aboriginal treaties, shoot targets with a .308 rifle in a city park, abuse an official handicap parking permit or dodge your taxes. Everyone should have the opportunity to benefit from the luxury of a tolerant, caring, democratic, unobtrusive, open society. I certainly want that for myself. Pretty basic stuff, but it is clearly a rare luxury when you look around our challenged world. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau claims that Canada is the world’s first “Post-National State,” but I hold that most Canadians share core values, even a uniform culture, as much as that’s possible in a large geography with two distinctly different official languages. You all will have your own list, but I’d cite the following: support for the rule of law and democracy, equality of the sexes, a duty of care to others (both home and abroad), respect for your fellow man/woman (particularly so with age, experience and/or standing), patriotism, comfort with Christian statutory holidays and a Constitutional Monarchy, and a sense of pride in what we’ve built as a community — these are irrefutable demonstrations of what consciously binds us as a nation...." HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY MALTA! 🇲🇹🇪🇺🇲🇹🇪🇺🇲🇹🇪🇺🇲🇹🇪🇺🇲🇹🇪🇺🇲🇹🇪🇺 Malta gained its political Independence from Britain on 21 September 1964. Malta 🇲🇹 is the smallest country in the EU 🇪🇺 with an area of 316 km2 and a population of 0.5 million. Capital Valletta Official EU languages Maltese, English Current president George Vella Current Prime Minister Robert Abela Both are members of the Malta Labour Party, on the centre-left of the political spectrum. EU member country since 2004 Schengen area member since 2007 Euro area member since 2008 Some history Malta has been under the rule of the Phoenicians, the Carthaginians, the Romans, the Byzantines, the Arabs, the Normans, the Knights of St John (who developed banks, hospitals, architecture and made Italian the official language), the French troops of Napoleon. It became a British protectorate in 1800 and a Crown colony in 1813. Malta was an important hospital during WWI, “the Nurse of the Mediterranean’. In World War II, Malta was heavily bombed but also severely damaged Italian air crafts. Malta got a medal from King George - the George Cross, for bravery in the face of the enemies - which is now on the Maltese flag, and the promise of self government, which came true in 1947. Malta became an independent constitutional monarchy, with Queen Elizabeth II as Queen of Malta as its head of state, in 1964. However, a lease agreement allowed the British authorities use of the island as a military and naval base, which was revised in 1971 when the British Labour Government took power. Malta became a parliamentary Republic in 1974. On 31 March 1979 the last British Forces left Malta, when the Defence Treaty with Britain came to an end. follow me on IG @walkforeurope #walkforeurope #European #maltaindependenceday #Malta #Maltese #EuropeanUnion #EU #Europe #Europeanhistory #europeans

I get the sense the sun is setting on the dream world people like Trudeau rose to power on. Reality is reality and the world they presented wasn't real and never will be. Their public support is crumbling and increasingly they are in power simply by virtue of the position they have, as they no longer have sufficient public support to justify it in any other way. In terms of the federal liberals, their alliance with the NDP has bought them a bit more time of their precious power and attention, but the NDP's rather extreme views on politics, coupled with their leaders partisan support for the Seikh cause in India, is actually creating more opposition, and will only make things much worse when their party is officially over. It's a party I was never invited to, I know that, which was never a problem for me, but I do have to eat and pay for housing, and it would be nice to be able to walk down the street without constant bombardment of abuse, and it would be nice to have my credentials, experience, basic humanity recognized and validated in a material way, but also kind of necessary and it isn't happening for me, or for a lot of people whose existence was deemed tragically unfashionable for the past decade or two. But things are turning around, not just in Canada, but globally, so while I'm hoping for a break sooner, the longer this carries on the stronger my position and thus the stronger my bargaining position becomes, and we live in an interconnected world, so I am not bound to Canada by a long shot, but Canada is bound to the larger world of geopolitics and if nothing else, its' inability to defend its' own borders lends itself further to this. In the meantime, I'll carry on, as I have for many years now, turn the other cheek, work hard and keep plugging for something better. The more my voice is heard the greater I understand how horribly unjust my life here has been, and, given all the very unglamorous work I've done, and the credentials I gained because I had nothing else to do, not being invited to the party, the more valuable this all becomes for me, the more recognized I become, and the more allies I gain. And the more this happens, not only does the call grow for a fair opportunity, but the more people want answers from those responsible. And if Trudeau wants the esteem of being the undisputed leader, it means that when people become angry, it's him they blame first and foremost. It's pretty hard, and a little crazy to be honest, to blame someone for your problems when he has no power, no standing, no money, and can't even afford a place of his own. Like most of Trudeau's rule, it's an idea heavily focused on the ceremonial, but lacks substance. It's ceremonial to blame a symbolic antagonist, but it fails under closer scrutiny the more completely disenfranchised you make that person, and the greater you profit as a result.
