Let's Talk Law... If you served our country in the US Army, US Navy, United States Air Force, United States Marine Corps, U.S. Coast Guard, or the National Guard or Reserves, then you may be entitled to certain benefits from the federal government. This may include healthcare, education, and disability benefits. Suppose you have been diagnosed with a medical condition or a mental health impairment that was either caused or made worse by your military service. In that case, you may be eligible for veterans’ disability benefits. After filing an application for benefits, you will receive a decision from the VA. You then have several options for filing an appeal if you are unsatisfied with the decision. Shishir Shakya, Alicia Plemmons, and Conor Norris recently published a study on the licensing of military spouses, studying changes in licensing reforms at the state-level to understand the effect on employment and the barriers to continuous employment. The full scope of the barriers spouses face while needing to relocate may not be captured within data analysis, but in this study focusing in on nurses specifically, Shakya et al. find a significant 12% probability that a registered nurse will move near an army base and continue working rather than leaving the labor market in the wake of a state's full licensing recognition policy for military spouses. This builds evidence of what policies are helping ease this transition and inform best policymaking practices for military families. Find their paper here: https://lnkd.in/edU49-z4

Title: "Unseen Guardians: A Tale of Unexpected Support" In 1996, as a young naval officer at Camp Lejeune's Naval Hospital, I found myself leading a community-based organization. Amid my routine visits to various committees and clinics, a mix-up in dates for a mandatory detail threatened to disrupt my otherwise disciplined record. Unbeknownst to me, concerns arose about my absence from the pharmacy detail. The director for administration at the hospital even contemplated involving the military police. However, an unexpected support network quickly came to my rescue. Yolanda, an executive secretary in my clinic, initiated a rapid response. Utilizing an internal electronic mailing system, she reached out to our tight-knit group of black officers, enlisted, and civilians. Within moments, my whereabouts were pinpointed through colleagues' sightings and messages. This unforeseen network ensured that I received timely communication about my overlooked detail. The incident could have jeopardized my career, but the collective vigilance of my support system intervened. Reflecting on this incident, it's clear that having people in our lives who actively watch out for our well-being, even when we are unaware, is invaluable. This story underscores the importance of an intricate support structure that operates seamlessly, safeguarding our interests even in moments when we don't realize we need it. #UnexpectedSupport #GuardiansInDisguise #SupportNetwork #NavyStories #ProfessionalResilience #TeamVigilance #BehindTheScenesSupport #OfficeCommunity #NavigatingChallenges #LeadershipJourney #blackexcellence #military #navyveteran

Today and every day, we honor the dedication and sacrifices made by our First Responders. #FirstRespondersDay If you’re a First Responder suffering from TBI, fill out our inquiry form ➡️ bit.ly/tucbh-inquiry-kz
