It is difficult at the best of times to manage Adelaide's precious water resources to meet the domestic, environmental, cultural, and industrial demands. Once the added pressures of climate change and projected population growth are factored in, the need to rethink its future management becomes essential. That's why Watertrust has been working closely with stakeholders from across Greater Adelaide's water sector to co-design future water management arrangements. Happy World Water Day Everyone! This year's theme is "Water for Peace". A much-needed call to raise awareness as transboundary water conflicts can contribute to country’s instability, unwanted politics, and disruption of peace beyond borders. Transboundary waters account for 60% of the world’s freshwater flows and more than 3 billion people worldwide depend on water that crosses national borders. Out of 153 countries that share rivers, lakes and aquifers with their neighbours, only 24 countries report having cooperation agreements for all their shared water. Some of the reasons for conflicts: 1. Dispute in water allocations 2. Lack of proper water management institutions in the regions/countries 3. Demand overtakes supply Some of the solutions to maintain peace over transboundary waters could be: 1. Effective communication between countries/regions 2. Public awareness and knowledge building 3. Relationship building between regions/countries 4. Mediation by third parties during conflicts 5. Science and engineering approaches to manage water 6. Proper policy and government strategies for water management Uniting and working together to balance everyone’s rights and needs, water can be a stabilizing force and a catalyst for sustainable development. #worldwaterday #sustainability

A pretty unanimous take-away from the Water-Smart session at the #EUGreenWeek2024 moderated by our colleague Aurel Ciobanu-Dordea 🇪🇺 : #Water is still not there where it should be on the political agenda. Too many still do not see the critical need for a EU-wide Water Resilience Strategy. Let’s secure this goes to the centre of the EU’s broader reform agenda, keeping the needs to: - swiftly #upscaling the many innovative solutions; - defining effective #incentives for nature restoration, water utilities & water users as such; - #derisking the badly needed water investments, including via nature-based solutions. No #WaterWiseEU without a #WaterSmartEU! John Bell Geoff Townsend Emil Fannikke Kiær Dragan Savic

Abundant rain is an essential part of living in the Pacific Northwest, and always has been. Our landscape and our communities are literally shaped by water, but its impact on our lives can sometimes be hard to see (beyond wet socks). That’s part of the reason why the my team developed The Power of Water – an interactive online StoryMap about our waterways, our drainage and wastewater infrastructure, and the communities that benefit from them. https://lnkd.in/gFmKwen5

Absolutely on target and extremely important for so many reasons. Unfortunately, there are so many areas that need funding at the same time that there is no way to fund water infrastructure without further increasing the national deficit. Unless we can start the debate on HR 4052, the creation of the Nation’s fifth National Infrastructure Bank. We need to get this funded…check out nibcoalition.com. #nationalinfrastructurebank
