Business Psychologist | Leadership Coach | Host of No.1 Business Psychology Podcast "Psych and Success" | Helping Organizations Transform and Embrace Next-Gen Leaders
Just had the privilege of attending an eye-opening webinar hosted by Lumina Learning, featuring insightful speakers Dr Stewart Desson, and Julie Ensor. The session dove deep into data-driven evidence suggesting that women often display leadership qualities more frequently than men. The traits discussed were empathy, collaboration, spontaneity, social skills, and reliability. As a Management Psychologist, this led me to ponder a critical question: Is it societal norms or organizational structures that inhibit men from showcasing their leadership skills? Especially when we consider that men who prioritize people-focused roles earn 26% less, while women in similar roles earn just 6% less. This gap reveals a dissonance between what organizations claim to value in their culture and leadership, and what they actually incentivize. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. Do you think it's societal conditioning, organizational norms, or a mix of both that leads to such discrepancies? 🤔 #Leadership #GenderDynamics #OrganizationalCulture #ManagementPsychology

Helping Amazing Technical Experts Become Inspiring Technical Leaders By Developing Skills, Knowledge And Self-Belief | Technical Leadership Coach & Mentor | Techie Cheerleader | Opinionated Straight Talker
Women in technology can often face an uphill battle for advancement into leadership roles. In my experience, this can be down to many factors but often includes playing small and undervaluing their achievements, having few female mentors and role models in their organisations to look up to, and systemic (often unconscious!) bias. But with tenacity, self belief, and resilience, it is possible to overcome this. I would love you to share your strategies for overcoming barriers in the comments below, so younger women can learn from your journey!

Leadership Development Expert, ICF coach- Top Linked In Executive Coaching voice, DEI advocate, Gender Equality champion, TEDx Speaker, Author of 3 books, Co founder of a non profit, Board member,
I came across this interesting talk on the science of women leadership. I have done many sessions on the theme and explored this area in depth-but we still don't have many answers. Here are three interesting things that I learnt from this which will be relevant for all of us in this field. 1. A research shows that women score higher in demonstration of leadership skills and traits but they score themselves low on a parameter called leader efficacy- Women do NOT believe that they can succeed as a leader even though they do demonstrate leadership skills. This is for a group of girls in college- even before they enter the working world. How do we get women ( and I include me in this group) to BELIEVE that they can be great leaders? 2. Women are AFRAID to lead. Women reported feelings of fear when they had options for choosing leadership roles. I have spoken about this while describing the DETER and DIMINISH strategies used to keep people from their power. There is a fear of an identity threat. There is research ( from Amnesty International) that shows that women in politics get trolled 7 times more than men. How do we get over this FEAR of leadership? 3. Women face this fear the mental models and stereotypes for women leaders are not positive. There is a STEREOTYPE THREAT- the risk of conforming to the stereotypes about the particular group. How do we create POSITIVE role models for women leaders so that they do not fear being labelled and stereotypes? I believe that this is where leadership programs and coaching for women will make a difference apart from all the other things that need to be done at an external level. A safe space to discuss and explore identity, fear and stereotypes is necessary to get more women into leadership roles. Organizations and communities that provide that can help to correct the leadership imbalance. Aparna Mathur Ruchika B. https://lnkd.in/girECkiw I have always been interested in leadership, but I had my first real leadership position as the female class representative my freshman year. Through becoming megaphone for my grade, I realized that above all else, I loved being the voice for the needs and concerns for others. It also created an insatiable curiosity about all things surrounding leadership: what makes a leader successful? How do different kinds of people respond to different kinds of leaders? What challenges do leaders have to overcome, even on a daily basis? This passion has persisted through high school as I have continued to take on leadership roles in student government, athletics and student ministries, and I began to ask more questions. https://lnkd.in/girECkiw Heading into this summer, I became a student of leadership. To begin my journey, I decided to hone in on female leadership, researching what it takes for a female leader to be successful, the challenges a female leader has to overcome, and much more. These questions are extremely prevalent in my daily life as during my senior year (crazy!), I will be the Student Government President, Captain of both the Varsity Girls Soccer and Basketball teams, a Young Ministry Leader, and a Student Ambassador. I’ve read books and countless articles this summer about successful women in leadership, but by far the most enriching part of my project has been getting to interview around 20 incredible female leaders who are leading with empathy, purpose, and strength. https://lnkd.in/girECkiw The takeaways from my research have been so incredible that I want to share them with other young women leaders as well. I will be doing this through Aspire: the Young Women’s Leadership Summit on August 27 from 1-2pm PST virtually on Zoom. We will have incredible female speakers offering their advice and stories about their careers in leadership, including Pattie Grimm and Angela Moore. https://lnkd.in/girECkiw Through the link below, you or someone interested can sign up to become a part of this event. Our target audience is young women who are interested or are currently pursuing leadership, though anyone is welcome to attend. https://lnkd.in/girECkiw Please feel free to message me with any questions and thank you for your interest! #leadership #womenleaders #empathy #purpose #confidence
