At this year’s Markel Group Reunion, we sold books as part of “Tom’s Bookshelf.” We asked a small group of associates from across the company to provide "staff picks" for our guests. We wanted to reflect the company's curiosities and personality while helping our guests discover a new read. Also, the associate who sold the most books got a prize. We’re happy to announce that Henry Gardener, a Senior Managing Director of Legal and Chief Risk Officer in our London office at Markel, was the winner. His book recommendation, "The Lessons of History" by husband-and-wife authors Will and Ariel Durant, sold the most copies. Congrats Henry! A gift card to Waterstones, a London-based bookstore, is on the way. To learn more about the reunion, visit: https://mklreunion.com/
Thank you! It is an excellent book, full of the insights from Will and Ariel Durant learnt through writing an epic history of the world. A focused slim volume on the ways that history repeats or at least rhymes. Great insights for investing and risk. Hat tip to Tim Ferriss on whose superb podcast I picked up the original recommendation.
Congratulations Henry Gardener . I’ll be adding that book to my reading list!
