Irrepressible Community Builder | Catalyst for Change, Arts Empowerment & Holding Safe & Inspiring Space for All | Serial Entrepreneur
I'm proud of Houston for leading the way. Kelly Young & I sit on Midtown Management's Board together. We had a recent conversation about what Houston's unhoused population needs & it boils down to 3 things: 1️⃣ Affordable Housing - like REAL affordable housing 🏘 2️⃣ Getting Drug Dealers off the streets - they target the unhoused which makes getting them off the street EVEN harder. 3️⃣ Funding - we had a ton funding via COVID, but that's now GONE. It costs ~$1200/mo to house someone, there are less than 5,000 unhoused folks in HTX, that's ~$72M annually...That's NOT a huge number. AND I'm going to add a Number 4️⃣ Talk to everyBODY about this | REGISTER to Vote | Vote | Write a letter to your local city council person | DO Something - don't think it's not your problem too. https://lnkd.in/gpX93tH6

Solutions to our nation’s housing crisis that address housing affordability and supply must be paired with strong and enforceable tenant protections to help prevent housing instability and homelessness, redress long-standing racial and social inequities, and advance housing justice. We encourage advocates, organizations, and policymakers to endorse the National Tenants Bill of Rights.

A crucial aspect of implementing missing middle housing is bringing everyone to the table. Unfortunately, we've alienated a significant portion of our established area housing stock owners, often elderly, from the conversation by labeling them as "NIMBYs." Let's work together to find housing solutions that benefit everyone in our communities, including aging in place and multigenerational housing. Empathy and clear communication are key to bringing everyone back to the conversation. #MissingMiddleHousing #HousingSolutions #CommunityBuilding Join us at mddl for our first housing event as we venture into finding solutions to make middle housing for community by community https://lnkd.in/gHi3DsA2
