Knowledge co-production is part of the landscape of participatory science practices. Awareness of different traditions and approaches in this field can inform the design and refinement of projects in this field, and Siqing Yu is exploring where knowledge co-production fits. Your responses can help her research. Association for Advancing Participatory Sciences The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine
PhD Researcher on Knowledge Co-Production in Citizen Science at KU Leuven and University of Melbourne
Dear Citizen Science Professionals at the Association for Advancing Participatory Sciences, ECSA - European Citizen Science Association, Australian Citizen Science Association, Scivil, CitizenScience.Asia, Are you aiming to produce scientifically robust and socially relevant knowledge through your citizen science projects? Help us to understand better how citizen science works: https://lnkd.in/eqX5ekGf This survey will take 10-15 minutes. Your time is highly appreciated. This survey consists of mostly single- or multi-choice questions to simplify your efforts. What do we do with the results? We share them with you via a report and a hybrid workshop in 2024. More details will be shared soon. Thank you very much, Researchers from KU Leuven, the University of Melbourne, and the University of Ljubljana Much appreciation for the guidance and support from Joep Crompvoets, Trui Steen, Tina Jukic, Abbas Rajabifard, Jagannath Aryal

Do the terms 🚨 'non-traditional research outputs' 🚨 (aka NTROs) or 🚨 'non-traditional research data' 🚨 resonate with you? Or are you curious to learn more about what these mean? Do your research materials include things like 🚨 (analog or digital) films, sound recordings, hacked-together devices, or even text-based artifacts 🚨 that you feel don't quite 'fit in' with existing data repositories or publishing platforms? Or do you work with communities who sometimes struggle to find a home for certain of their research materials? Are you interested in 🚨 meeting other like-minded non-traditionalists and their enablers 🚨 to exchange ideas, use-cases, and visions for a future in which such outputs and data formats are more easily findable, reusable, and cite-able? If you've answered 'Yes!' to any of the above, then please join us at our very complexly-titled and overly-ambitious workshop at the upcoming National Open Science Festival, which will be taking place in Maastricht, NL on 22 October 2024 from 14.00-14.45. All of the deets are in the attached link, but feel free to contact me or co-organizer Andre Castro if you have any questions.

And straight after you can roll into our session (fourth session, 14:55) on "Tracking Research Objects: Levelling the playing field in research assessment" https://lnkd.in/ehqDb3-v As part of my Netherlands eScience Center Fellowship we're discussing important questions such as: Should we track research objects or has this the risk to reinforce the publish or perish culture? Are there successful examples? Looking forward to this discussion and the festival!

Continuing a neverending circle of LinkedIn reposts, check out Esther Plomp & co's NL Open Science Fest workshop, which will address questions around 'appropriate' approaches to tracking research objects (including data, software, and methods)... and perhaps whether this should be done at all. A super cool topic with some potentially nice synergies with our own workshop's focus on non-traditional research outputs. Cool!

📅 Just one week to go before the next public meeting on Measuring and Recognising the Nuances of Impact. The meeting and the expert speakers aim to cover: 1. How do we determine how open and collaborative behaviours in conducting research can be measured and establish a way of tracking and monitoring these activities? 2. How do we evidence that open and collaborative research leads to higher quality and more impactful work, and understand any unintended consequences? 3. How do we translate open and collaborative behaviours into incentives and rewards that are recognised by funders and academic institutions? Broader impacts are one of the two primary review criteria for the National Science Foundation (NSF), yet many researchers struggle with relating their research to societal impacts. Why is this the case? Mr. Geoff of SCIENCEDOCS INC. writes that some researchers find it difficult to think beyond the hard data of their work to future effects on wider society, something especially challenging for those focusing on basic science. Thankfully, there are many ways to connect research of all kinds to broader impacts. If you're struggling with developing broader impacts, check out the article ⬇️ for suggestions on how to get started! #ucdresearchdevelopment #ucdproposaldevelopment #researchdevelopment #proposaldevelopment #broaderimpacts

Working with Citizen Science in European projects Today, the Citizen Science knowledge center at Syddansk Universitet - University of Southern Denmark and the pre-award research support held a joint workshop. The aim of the workshop was to improve the collaboration to support more researchers with citizen science needs, in a timely and competent manner. Do you know what citizen science is and how to work with it? 👉 Including citizens in your project can take several avenues - from citizens contributing with data collection to being involved in the definition of the research question, the study design, and/or the interpretation of data. 👉 Our citizen science experts Thomas Kaarsted and Anne Kathrine Overgaard shared the overview below, which is really helpful to define the different levels. 👉 If you need good examples, the SDU Citizen Science has a lot of cool cases (check out the link in the comments below). How widespread is citizen science in cluster 2 of Horizon Europe? 👉 My colleagues Delia Puzzovio, Sisse Marie Teglgaard Buur and Weronika Bogacz made an overview of calls in cluster 2. If you are not aware of citizen science yet, you may be relieved to know that across all drafts, forthcoming and open calls, the strict demand for citizen science, engagement, or involvement is restricted to around 30 topics. However, if you look at calls simply suggesting involving citizens in your project, alone in cluster 6 there are around 70 topics... 👉 We know the EU Commission wants research institutions to mobilize citizens, so it seems that we are lucky to already have a citizen science knowledge center at our university!
