As the mental health crisis continues to rise among teens, schools are beginning to take different approaches to help students. Officials at Alta-Aurelia High School, a public high school in Alta, Iowa, created teen Mental Health First Aid (tMHFA), a program that not only guides teens to cope with their mental health but also teaches students to help each other. Could this be a way to talk about mental health and take away some of the stigma we constantly hear? To learn more about tMHFA and its positive effects on students, watch the full Good Morning America video: https://lnkd.in/d4BwCHZU #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthawareness

Mentalhealthfirstaid.org likened this to CPR training, but for mental health. Much like CPR, the directions aren't necessarily complicated, but the specific indicators, steps, and nuances on how to administer support REALLY matter and can dramatically impact the person you're intending to help, for better or worse. If you haven't been trained in mental health first aid yet, the time is now! Register: https://lnkd.in/eBkrqKqw
"We’ve all heard of CPR. And because of it, many of us know what to do if someone is choking on a small piece of food or having trouble breathing. But, do you know what to do if someone around you is having a panic attack or suicidal thoughts? That’s what Mental Health First Aid is for. Just like CPR teaches you how to help someone having a heart attack, Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to help someone experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis. You learn risk factors and warning signs for mental illness and addiction concerns, strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations and where to turn for help." - mentalhealthfirstaid.org Get prepared. 🗣 In 2023, around one in every five children and young people aged 8-25 had a mental health difficulty. Since 2017, NHS Digital have been monitoring young people’s mental health. This was the second year that the survey asked about online bullying and social media safety. 👨👧 Children with a mental health difficulty were significantly more likely to have been bullied online compared to those without, highlighting the need to safeguard those with mental health difficulties appropriately. 🏫 By implementing comprehensive mental health support in schools, we can move a step closer to providing the level of mental health support that children need.
