Dear Colleagues, In a recent publication in the American Journal of Case Reports, by authors from the National University Hospital, Singapore, an interesting case report sheds light on a rare presentation of Meckel's diverticulum. The report describes a 15-year-old girl who presented with subacute small bowel obstruction due to an internal hernia associated with Meckel's diverticulum. The case highlights the importance of considering Meckel's diverticulum as a possible cause of small bowel obstruction in children. Early diagnosis and prompt intervention are crucial for improving clinical outcomes and avoiding complications. To learn more about this case, please visit the American Journal of Case Reports webpage for the complete report. | https://lnkd.in/drD8iJ-C

Thankful for the opportunity to present with Tufts Medical Center at ICCAI 2024. With significant adverse outcomes of interventions like TAVR (10% to 20% mortality at 1 year), enhanced long term risk stratification might be useful, especially in managing elderly & frail populations, optimizing outcomes and reducing waste. The conference is hosted by the Society for Complex Acute Illness. The word “complex” here is key to our narrative, as acute illness involves multiorgan dysregulation that can be seen in loss of signal complexity at multiple time scales associated with the breakdown of nonlinear regulatory feedback loops. Our results show that selected beat scales may optimize measurement of the change in information content embedded in BP waveforms (via entropy metrics) showing different cardiac contractile function and vascular systemic elastance, which variables may directly affect outcomes. Special Thanks to Ebenezer Tolman, Ethan Brovman, Sage Tuchsen, Emery Amtmann and Timothy Ruchti

"What does it mean to “move the needle”? In thinking about the theme for the 2025 ACPM annual conference, the planning committee and ACPM leadership settled on “Moving the Needle for Preventive Medicine and Public Health”. This phrase is a play on words meant not only to immediately evoke Seattle’s famous Space Needle as a recognizable landmark that also serves as a fitting image for the logo of the conference, but more importantly, it connotes the need for change and for actions to drive such changes. Preventive Medicine (PM) specialists are certainly no strangers to both needs: as the medical specialty that bridges between the house of medicine and the house of public health (PH), we are constantly working to promote and protect health, and to prevent disease, disability and premature death for populations as well as the social groups and individuals within them." Read "Moving the Needle for Preventive Medicine and Public Health" by ACPM Fellow and Chair of the PM2025 Conference Planning Committee Dr. Yuri T. Jadotte MD, PhD, MPH, FACPM.
