Children at the Maria Montessori School - Crouch End, learnt about the artist Keith Haring and his work, and carried out a project inspired by this. The children explored his style by drawing the outlines of their bodies while laying on the floor and then painting them in vibrant colours. This activity was not only fun but also encouraged creativity, self-expression, and an understanding of movement and shape in art. Learn about child development at the Elementary (6-12 years) stage with our introductory Montessori course - AMI Orientation 6-12. Learn about how children move towards more abstract ways of thinking and learning and how to support them with all their big questions about why things work the way they do. Introducing…the Maria Montessori School Adolescent Programme for 12 – 16 year olds! Our newly established Montessori Adolescent programme – a “Place of Study and Work” fosters the developing sense of self in students 12 to 16 years through real and meaningful work. The coursework is designed to give students a sense of purpose and belonging as they explore the philosophical questions: Who am I in relation to society? What is my role? What will be my future? The adolescents have recently been on their Odyssey Trip which takes place at the start of the school year and embraces the idea of a journey of social-emotional growth. The adolescents dive deeply into community life through a ten day camping trip, taking responsibility for all aspects of their daily life, from planning to preparing to cooking to caring for each other. Parents will have the option to collect their children at 5.30pm instead of the usual school finish time of 3.30pm. This will no doubt provide extra flexibility for working parents and provide extra childcare cover. During these extended hours, the children will engage in group community building activities such as baking, gardening, outdoor games, movement, and more. Discover how to support children with learning differences in the Montessori 3-6 years environment with a course that takes a neurodevelopmental approach. This course will be led by @Louise Livingston, our Head of Training, who is passionate about this topic. By their very nature, many “special needs” courses try to mandate what you can do if a child has a “special need”. This suggests that the same approach can help all children with a particular developmental disorder. However, developmental disorders are spectrum disorders and there can be a world of difference between one child and the next. Montessori and Learning Differences: A Neurodevelopmental Approach will start on 3rd October 2024 and run as an evening study format, allowing students to juggle work or childcare. We also provide the chance to pay for it in 10 installments. You may be working in a Montessori Children’s House, a parent supporting a child between the ages of 3-6 in the home or a professional interested in the support of learning differences using a neurodevelopmental approach. The 2024-25 academic year started yesterday at the Maria Montessori School! We'd like to extend a very warm welcome to all returning families and children who started yesterday, and to those new children to our school who are given the chance to gradually settle into the classroom environment.
