Marcum LLP's Chairman and CEO, Jeffrey Weiner, shares his Thoughts of the Week - See You in September! There’s no mistaking it—summer is in full swing, which means plenty of opportunities to get outside and enjoy the warm weather and sunshine. July 4 is almost here, and Marcum LLP’s offices will be closed next week to celebrate the holiday and give the Marcum team time to recharge over what is traditionally a very slow week for us. I hope everyone on our team will take advantage of this time off to get some much-needed R&R and reboot. Many of our team members have made herculean efforts to serve our clients this year, and it has not gone unnoticed. #AskMarcumSearch #AskMarcum #MarcumEverywhere https://hubs.ly/Q02DJ9ZY0

Canadian Association of Alternative Strategies & Assets - Bringing Canada to the world and the world to Canada
We are almost done the finishing touches of our Sixth Annual Family Office Summit, held in Toronto at the lovely Toronto Region Board of Trade on Queen's Quay. We start on April 9th with an SFO exclusive sessions - no sponsors, consultants, MFOs...just SFO - for Relatives and Professionals (in separate rooms). We already have 45 SFOs confirmed for these sessions and the conference. If you'd like to participate, please let me know (and early, as we vet everyone and nearing capacity). April 10th is a full day of content and networking. As usual, we NEVER share contact info of any attendee - please use the conference app to connect and book meetings during the days. Our lunchtime fireside features Nancy Bertrand, LL.B., CFA (Citi Private Bank) interviewing Josh Roach (Meritage Group LP, Jim Simon's FO). Being Direct Family offices have a multitude of investment opportunities via various vehicles and structures: funds, FoFs, direct, SMAs, and joint ventures to name a few. This fireside will focus on direct investments and how one family office is managing their deal sourcing, transaction process, operational oversight and maintenance, and divesture of a number of situations over the years. Joined by a multi-family office with a dedicated Direct Investment Program, they will speak to how families make use of these types of programs and take a holistic look at managing one’s portfolio – along with constraints that may be present based on the family’s composition. (E.g., having less or more of a leaning toward direct investments and/or certain market sectors based on where they made their money or continue to have legacy assets and expertise.) This is a rare glimpse at how these speakers make the most of directs and a great opportunity to add your question to the mix! President at AlmCrown Delivery | Work with me to get your final mile Consumer Goods shipped intact and on time, to their final destination.
Four years ago, I lost 100% of my business in one day. Which makes AlmCrown’s 10-year anniversary especially extraordinary. In March 2020, just before the pandemic shut downs were announced, 75% of my business came from two-man, white glove services. Essentially, I was delivering products inside people’s homes. The other 25% came from delivering cleaning supplies to restaurants and hotels. As you can imagine, neither of these were possible during a lock down. So one day after the shut down was announced, I was out of business and out of luck. I had to pivot. I used to work for a company that delivered wine and was able to build solid relationships with the wineries. I reached out and started getting work arranging residential wine deliveries. The problem? I had trucks, but I needed vans. So I pivoted again, adding vehicles and staff to my business - which was making zero revenue at the time. For the next six months, we delivered tens of thousands of cases of wine across Ontario. Thankfully, by that point, businesses started opening up and I was able to expand my services to other markets. Those six months saved my business. And now, as I mark my company’s 10-year anniversary, it’s hard not to think about the time I almost lost everything. And how grateful I am to be able to celebrate. How did the pandemic force you to pivot?

What kinds of questions do members use the Vistage National Network for? "I'd like to buy out my Minority Shareholders and need professional help (CPA/Attorney)." In addition to their personal peer group and chair, #Vistage members have access to a national network for issue specific support. This question was posted to the small business network today. I can guarantee this member will receive thoughtful and relevant recommendations for next steps. Even better, he will hear from people who have done exactly what he needs help with. Vistage members are not armchair quarterbacks. This is a peer group with a strong vetting process to guarantee that recommendations are meaningful. If you are local to MPLS and have been considering a peer group, let's talk.
