Happy #WellnessWednesday everyone! September is National Self-Care 🧘♀️Awareness Month, and it’s the perfect time to prioritize your health and well-being. As we continue to navigate the challenges of the pandemic, it’s important to take care of ourselves physically, mentally, and emotionally. Dr. Lynn O’Connor, a leading colorectal surgeon and cancer specialist, reminds us that “the groundwork for all happiness is good health.” Here are some tips for practicing self-care this month and beyond: Prioritize sleep: Getting enough restful sleep is essential for our physical and mental health. Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep each night and establish a relaxing bedtime routine. Move your body: Regular exercise can boost your mood, reduce stress, and improve your overall health. Find an activity you enjoy and make it a part of your daily routine. Practice mindfulness: Take a few minutes each day to focus on your breath and be present in the moment. Mindfulness can help reduce stress and anxiety and improve your overall well-being. Connect with others: Social support is crucial for our mental health. Make time to connect with friends and loved ones, whether it’s in person or virtually. Take care of your health: Don’t neglect your physical health. Schedule regular check-ups with your healthcare provider, eat a balanced diet, and stay up-to-date on recommended screenings. Remember, self-care isn’t selfish - it’s essential. By taking care of ourselves, we can better care for others and live happier, healthier lives. Let’s make self-care a priority this month and beyond! Sunday is a great day to rest and relax a little and I would argue essential for overall wellbeing. It’s a day you’ll often find me curled up for half an hour or so reading a book and escaping the demands of my everyday life as a busy small business owner, wife, and mum of three sons. It’s my ‘go-to’ activity for a bit of ‘time out’. In fact, I tend to read for 20 mins most nights without fail aiding better restful sleep – it helps my mind to ‘switch off’ and helps limit unhelpful negative ‘worrying’ or ‘whirring ‘to-do’ lists that can keep anyone up at night! Indeed, did you know? Research shows that relaxation: · keeps your heart healthier. · cuts stress · reduces muscle tension. · improves brain function and memory. · and helps you avoid depression, anxiety, and obesity! If you’re curious to know more about rest – here’s some interesting findings from a survey conducted in ‘The Rest Test, conducted in 2016, is the world’s largest ever study on rest. It was launched on ‘All in the Mind’ on BBC Radio 4 in collaboration with Wellcome Collection, Hubbub and Durham University. Researchers developed a questionnaire asking people what rest meant to them, how they rested and whether they would like more rest: https://lnkd.in/esudA4Td So, today I warmly encourage you to find your ‘happy place of relaxation’ and give yourself permission (guilt free) to indulge a little. Make time for an activity (even for just half an hour) that promotes some time to rest into your ‘Sun-day’. Apparently for women it’s more often ‘reading’ that tops the list and for men, ‘listening to music’ that’s most restful. What do you find restful? What’s your ‘go-to’ for a much-needed Sunday chill out? Do let me know in the comments below. Sarah :-) (The image is a selection of the books I’ve recently been reading for my regular ‘book club’ which I find is essential for my everyday wellbeing.) #Hypnotherapy #SelfCare #SSUFS #mentalheath #wellbeing #yourbestmind #relaxation #rest

Great article by Wendy Rose reflecting on 'Get On Your Feet Britain Week'. In the UK, nearly 40% of adults aren't meeting the recommended 150 minutes of physical activity weekly. Most of us are now aware that sedentary lifestyles breed lower mental wellbeing, obesity, increased cardiovascular risk and a whole list of other unpleasant (and costly) health outcomes. So why are we still so under-active as a nation? For many, desk-based jobs and home working get in the way of a healthy exercise routine. Others just need a little extra motivation and support to adopt new healthier habits around exercise. With engaging features like group activity challenges, progress tracking and fun workout routines, Dialogue helps users increase activity, with 90% of users exceeding 150 minutes weekly. Read Wendy's article below for more tips and insights to help you people move more. https://lnkd.in/e82Kcbwk 💪 #GetOnYourFeetBritain #Wellbeing #DigitalHealth #PhysicalActivity
