Following the publication of the UCL Institute of Health Equity, Marmot report, that highlighted the ill effects of living in a cold home, Warm Home Prescription is back on the House of Commons agenda.
Warm Home Prescription - invented by Energy Systems Catapult – is a new service helping people who struggle to afford energy and have severe health conditions made worse by the cold. The service helps them to stay warm and well at home and out of hospital in winter whilst reducing the energy consumption and carbon emissions of their home.
Alan Whitehead, Shadow Minister (Climate Change and Net Zero) and MP for Southampton Test called attention to Warm Home Prescription and put the question of whether the government is exploring “expanding [Warm Home Prescription]…or looking for alternative ways in which the health system and fuel poverty prevention can go hand in hand?”
Victoria Atkins, Secretary of State for Health, and Social Care, pointed to Warm Home Prescription as being an “excellent example of local collaboration between the NHS, local government and other partners.”
