📢 "We declare that women over 50 have the right to participate fully in decision-making" 📢 Excellent to see the newly launched manifesto from Dr Sarah Campbell (The Manchester Metropolitan University), Ruth Edson (Manchester Art Gallery) & Dr Elaine Dewhurst (The University of Manchester) for the fantastic Uncertain Futures research project, which challenged inequalities faced by women over 50 in Greater Manchester 👏 Based on the project findings, the manifesto shares recommendations for local and national policymakers, including: 🤝 Age-friendly work policies and toolkits in local authority development strategies. 💷 A call for full pension equality and the end to pension poverty for women. 🗺  Policy development that takes account of historic injustice and ensures an intersectional and life-course approach is used to create new policies. David Attenborough, a name synonymous with #environmentconservation, has been a source of inspiration through his remarkable documentaries. His lifelong dedication to a cause that should be the utmost priority for individuals, institutions, and governments is truly commendable. Needless to say, I was delighted to have spotted his house in Richmond, Surrey and a picture was a must! One of Attenborough's compelling suggestions is to stabilize the human population, ensuring it no longer grows and places undue demands on our planet's resources. He argues that this may naturally occur by the end of this century due to ongoing demographic changes. However, he stresses that we must work to expedite this process and reduce the peak population. Achieving this requires investments in education, improvements in women's rights, and efforts to lift people out of poverty. According to Attenborough, accomplishing this goal will have a profound impact and create an opportunity to restore balance to our environment. #girleducation plays a pivotal role in promoting intellectual and emotional well-being. It equips women with the tools they need to seek economic independence #womenempowerment and demand justice for themselves. The hustle can sometimes have us forget that we aren't just fundraising to close the gap, to build the reserve, to expand on benefits offerings. We work here and we want to be just as well as we hope to get our clients. #TheTrail - Columbia, Maryland was named Number 1 City in America for Women (WalletHub) because it was master planned by 3 women on a 5 person Howard County Council - as well female leads from the County Executive and Planning staff. In 2010, the women masterplan authors/drivers included Mary Kay Sigaty, Courtney Watson, Jen Terrasa, Jessica Feldmark, and Marsha McLaughlin. Councilmember Sigaty once remarked to me, “I want this to be a place that is exciting and welcoming for my daughter and her generation.” Madam Councilmember, you planned “the place” in America for women (according to Wallet Hub). Mission accompished. Here’s How 👇👇🏻👇🏽 "To receive the honor of #1 Best City for Women, WalletHub examined 15 key indicators of living standards including median earnings, unemployment rate, share of Women-Owned businesses, economic clout, uninsured rate, quality of women’s hospitals, and abortion policies and access to care, among others. Following the same metrics, Columbia was also ranked #6 for Women’s Economic and Social Well-Being, and #14 for Women’s Health Care & Safety. 182 cities were included in the research. This is a statue of leading Suffragette Annie Kenney. A remarkable woman from my home town. As I walked walked passed the statue, with my Eight year old daughter, Amal. I was given a personal lesson on the meaning of "true impact" The conversation went like this. Amal: Daddy, do you know who this is? Me: I think so, just don't remember the name. Amal: It's Annie Kenney, and she is like an amazing person. Me: Really, what makes her so amazing? Amal: She got women the right to vote, when everyone was against her. Me: Wow, but how does that make a difference? Amal: It means that if I want to, I can be Prime Minister. 🤯 The last statement was the most impressive part of that conversation. To think that the impact of work done by this working class women over a 100 years ago, allowed MY eight year daughter, to not just dream but confidently believe that she can be prime minister, is a great example of real impact. But this impact goes beyond just women, the fruits of Annie's struggles has given hope of prosperity to many sections of society, men and women alike. Therefore, on this international women's day, it is important to appreciate the holistic nature of equality and how ensuring the rights of one section of society makes a better society for everyone. #internationalwomensday2024 #internationalwomensday #iwd
