Fun fact: I started getting into hair and make up since my high school years. It was in 2007 where I just making random make up looks on my first national singing gig where I use only lipstick for my eyeshadows, blush and lips and it was multipurpose at that time because I don’t have any make up skill so I decided to put this matters into my own hands the last minute. Confused on my doing, I wasn’t paying attention to such correct ways of doing it until I realize on my photos that my look is all over the place until I decided to teach myself makeup by watching videos and doing research. To apply what I learned, I only not do such skills to myself but also done this to my female high school classmates and teachers during graduation pic day wherein they saw my potential of making it to the cosmetology field in which I never realize that I have a skill where I only did this as a side skill of which I enjoyed it. Fast forward to my freshman year in 2012, I realize that I have to improve more my make up skills and the hairstyling. Inspired by my favorites Anne Clutz, Nikki Tutorials and to other make up artist who done pageant make up, it motivated me to step up in the game when it comes to this, I expand my knowledge by learning the color wheels, the theory and the useful techniques done by professionals. I considered learning professional make up and hair in the mere future but due to financial and hectic schedules, I continued to teach myself in these skills and no only doing that but would showcase my improved makeup looks for motivation. #makeuplook #cosmetology #selftaught

As professionals, it's easy to forget that we all started somewhere. We all had to learn and grow to become experts in our fields. So, when someone comes to us with a beginner's mistake, it's important to remember this and offer guidance instead of criticism. Recently, my kids got into my wifes makeup as they wanted to make a smurf in real life, and while our first instinct may be to holler at them, it's important to take a step back. After all, who knows? This child of yours could become the next big FX makeup artist. Crushing their dreams with harsh words won't help them learn. Remember, every expert was once a beginner. Let's all strive to be the kind of professionals who offer guidance and support to those who are just starting out. Who knows? Maybe one day, they'll be the ones teaching us a thing or two.

Are you asking for it? Strange that sentence has a darker connotation which makes us feel uncomfortable. Because we should absolutely be asking for things. No one is looking out for you more than you. And yet sometimes it feels so uncomfortable asking for what we want. We can overthink the best way to construct an ask, to the point we don’t ask at all. A few weeks ago I noticed Sophie Johnson posting about a new ‘Change’ box set for inrehearsal learning platform. I had to approach! Of course I could hope they might, by some kind of serendipity, find me. But an approach would significantly increases the chances. And yesterday I found myself in a studio, with a script, in Hair & Makeup, about to film my Navigating Change box set. Brilliant fun. And I’m sure I’ll share more after edits! So what do you really want? And are you asking for it? All they can do is: Ignore Say no Say yes That’s it. Nothing else can happen. Take a messy step today and approach, and ask for what you want. In this narrative, the protagonist, who takes the same train every day to work, is fed up with the discourteous behavior of some high school students. One day, the protagonist politely asks a male student sitting in the priority seat to offer his seat to a pregnant woman. However, the student blatantly ignores the request and continues to do so even after multiple attempts to engage him. The next morning, another incident occurs when the protagonist overhears a girl complaining about her eyeliner. Turning towards the voice, it's revealed that a group of female students are applying makeup on the train, much to the dismay of other passengers who seem to be avoiding them. To make matters worse, the girls begin using perfume, filling the compact train car with a mix of scents that leaves the protagonist feeling nauseous. If you aren’t tattooing the people you want to impact, You’re wasting your time and likely theirs. Tattoos stick because they deposit ink beneath the skin, so it doesn’t wear away with time. The same is true of anything we are seeking to teach IF we aren’t finding ways to have people engage beneath the surface level. E3 is the formula I utilize when creating opportunities or teaching anything anywhere: Experience Exposure _______________________ = Effectiveness Expectations Experience plus Exposure overcomes (erroneous) Expectations. Leading to Effectiveness. Experiences combine 3 main types of learning: visual, auditory, and kinesthetic, ensuring the content or message is engaged thoroughly. Exposure brings them face-to-face with things they may not have realized, recognized, or been able to admit. Expectations can blind us from realities because we think we know. UNTIL, they gain new experience and have been exposed to a new reality. All of that together makes for Effectiveness in any area. Apparently, I’m a tattoo artist. You should be, too. While some professions, like medicine, may approach makeup with a focus on neutrality and empathy, I believe that as educators, we have a unique opportunity to model the power of self-expression through our personal style, including makeup. When I wear makeup to work, it’s not about vanity or overshadowing anyone—it’s about showing my students that they have the freedom to express who they are. In a world where uniforms and strict codes often dominate, my choice to wear makeup sends a message: self-expression is valid and can be embraced with grace. For those students who are drawn to it, seeing an adult who confidently wears makeup can be uplifting and encouraging. They comment on it, they ask questions, and in those moments, I see a spark of curiosity and empowerment. It’s a small way to show them that when they step out of their uniforms and into the world, they have the freedom to define their own identity. I work with a diverse group of young people daily, and not everyone is inclined toward makeup, but for those who are, it can be an important part of their self-expression. Wearing makeup in a way that is authentic and empowering not only boosts my own confidence but also sets an example for them. It shows that you can be professional, kind, and true to yourself, all while embracing the art of makeup.
