Why not if MLB and the NBA can establish a youth ( education/sports) program why can't MLS?!
It was great hearing from prior Hiring Our Heroes alums talk about their previous experiences going through the Fellowship program. It helped put this first week at our host companies into perspective. The biggest takeaways that I got were:
1. Be humble and hungry to learn!
2. My network IS my net worth.
3. Treat every interaction as a potential interview and show you are a team player.
4. Soft skills > Technical skills
5. Remember to focus on my well-being.
Any other advice from anyone for onboarding into a new job?

Most of you know that I volunteer as the Vice Chair of the Board for the Horizons at The Foote School program in New Haven, CT which is an immersive academic and enrichment program serving over 160 New Haven Public Students (grades K-8 with a newer High School Mentorship Program to reach the 9-12 kiddos as well) each year with year-round programming that is anchored around its robust summer component. We are a largely privately funded program that provides this opportunity free of charge to families and if you are looking for ways to help advance equity in education, see our support page for ways you can help us with our work: https://lnkd.in/eFskdnb7
Today, I had the privilege of not only presenting but seeing the fruits of my organizing a special panel of friends for our “Career Day Chat” for the middle school class. With the help of my friends Elijah Hampton, James Williams, Willie Henriquez, and Jordan Blatche, among the five of us, we presented a multifaceted group of professionals who are business owners, musicians, real estate investors, accountants, serial entrepreneurs, correctional officers, and attorneys for career day. These gentlemen showed up in such a real way and listening to them speak I only became more inspired and grateful to have these guys in my circle. The tough middle school crowd loved them as we shared jokes and laughs and thoughtful and engaging follow-up questions. Such a special moment was shared today, and I’m just moved to have been able to witness it.
So much was talked about but some of the messages we shared were:
- “You are only as good as the company you keep.”
- “Model what you need.”
- “Mistakes will happen, but do your best to not make the mistakes that you can’t make a comeback from.”
- “Ask for help and seek mentorship.”
- “Make a covenant to be the best version of yourself that you can be.”
- “There is more than one way to be successful. With that, school may not be the path for you, but all of us need to develop a game plan for success.”
- “Shutup and work – not everything you must do you will like.”

Did you know that one of this year's grant recipient's was the Apex Police Youth Enrichment Camp.
In a world where community engagement and positive law enforcement interactions are vital, police youth summer camps have emerged as a beacon of hope and an opportunity for building strong relationships between law enforcement agencies and the younger generation. These camps provide a unique and enriching experience that goes beyond the conventional summer activities, fostering trust, understanding, and leadership skills among the youth.
2023 marked the 14th anniversary of the Apex Police Department’s Youth Enrichment Camp.
The positive effects of YEC ripple beyond the participants themselves. As these young individuals return to their communities, they become ambassadors of understanding, sharing their experiences and insights with peers, family members, and neighbors. This leads to improved relationships between the police and the community at large, fostering a culture of trust and collaboration.
In an era where building bridges between law enforcement agencies and the youth they serve is paramount, police youth summer camps emerge as a transformative force. Through fostering understanding, nurturing leadership skills, and creating lasting relationships, these camps lay the foundation for a brighter and more cohesive future.

I ABSOLUTELY SEE NOTHING WRONG WITH CRYPTOCURRENCY.
I CAN UNDERSTAND WHY THE INFANT DEMOCRATIC-CAPITALISTIC MINDS OF TODAY BLAME THE USA GOVERNMENT. THAT SAID THEN IS ANY GOVERNMENT TO BE BLAMED FOR THE HOMELESS PROBLEMS PLAGUING THE WORLD.?... NO. GOD KNOWS ALL THE HEADACHES USA GOVERNMENT HAVE WITH THE FOREIGN AFFAIRS. THE NEW WORLD IS PRACTICALLY A SHOCK TO WITNESS. PEOPLE "ONLY WORKING" TOGETHER FOR A COMMON GOAL... "IN THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS." THUS DOESN'T THAT ALSO INCLUDE THE HOMELESS. THE HOMELESS ARE OUT THERE...
ARE YOU.?
HOMELESS A OPPORTUNITY MISUNDERSTOOD.....
The modern economic system is a market economy, which is a capitalist economy where people, not the government--NOT THE GOVERNMENT--own most businesses. In a capitalist economy, prices allocate capital and labor between competing uses, and capital assets like factories, mines, and railroads can be privately owned and controlled.
https://lnkd.in/eB98Jnv9 GOOGLE.
EXAMPLE, IF YOU NEED TO RAISE MONEY FOR ANY REASON OR MORE SO LETS SAY THE "HOMELESS" PROBLEM WHICH IS BELIEVED TO BE TIME & MONEY CONSUMING BUT IN ONE DIRECTION TOWARD THE HOMELESS.
HOWEVER CRYPTOCURRENCY CAN POSSIBLE ALLOWS AN EXPENDITURE OF CURRENCY TO BENEFIT ALL WHO USES THE CRYPTO & REGARDLESS OF HOW IT'S CONSUMED.
THEREFORE IF A CRYPTO "HOMELESS" CURRENCY EXISTED IT'S MORE HIGHLY LIKELY THAT THE HOMELESS PROBLEM CAN BE VANQUISHED BECAUSE CURRENCY-FINANCES IT'S ALWAYS AVAILABLE TO BE TAPPED INTO FOR HOMELESS RESOLUTIONS.

A new Black Wall Street? "The idea is a neighborhood that serves as a new technology and cultural hub for Boston that promotes equitable and inclusive economic growth, job creation, innovation, and homeownership." Read more about the vision that CAP Collaborative Executive Fellows Aisha Francis, Ph.D. and Nicole Obi are laying out in their joint op-ed.
President and CEO @ Franklin Cummings Tech | Nonprofit Leader | Aspen Civil Society Fellow
The transformative post-secondary education Franklin Cummings Tech provides is essential to Greater Boston's ability to create generational wealth for residents and their families.
Building our new campus in Nubian Square puts our unique brand of tech and trade education in closer proximity to many more of our current and prospective students. Through intentionality, the 21st century development will serve as a vibrant and engaging anchor institution on property that long sat vacant. Our new institutional home will be a celebration of the fact that a college education need not be traditional to advance economic opportunity.
I am proud to be among a coalition of leaders helping to advance this expansive vision of a vibrant neighborhood. CEO of the Black Economic Council of Massachusetts, Inc.Nicole Obi and I share the belief that Nubian Square can and should serve as the foundation for building a Black Wall Street that is an engine for generating Black wealth throughout Commonwealth.
