Dockless bike ridership skyrocketed 54% last year, according to Fluctuo’s annual review of 115 cities. There are now 130,000 dockless bikes in Europe - a 50% increase since 2022 - and more than 8x the number of dockless bikes in North America. “Politically, Europe has been laying the groundwork for years to encourage cycling and build cycling infrastructure. Some good work is being done in North America, but it will take a lot more time to see these efforts paying off at scale,” Fluctuo CEO Julien Chamussy told Zag Daily. Germany has a significant number of e-bike riders, leading Europe in this trend. According to the ZIV: German Market Data report, 75% of the population uses bicycles. Additionally, Germany hosts the largest trade show for the bike industry, #Eurobike. Cycling in German is not only a sport, but also a lifestyle. First results are expected in spring 2025 and will look to test the hypothesis that speed pedelecs, used on suitable car-free routes, can replace longer car journeys effectively without compromising the safety of S-pedelec riders or other route users. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dNu66uws

I found this interesting article regarding pinnacle innovation in cycling and the trickle down effect it can have in the cycling industry. Have we over-developed our consumer bicycles and do we need our bikes to be 5 grams lighter when we should loose that few kilo “spare tyre” ourselves? Aha!!! I see a physical contradiction being solved in this example The physical contradiction from customer point of view is ‘ I want a wider seat so that I can comfortably ride’ but the wider seat may cause interruption in pedaling’ So physical contradiction in this case is, customer wants wider seat for comfortable ride and narrower seat for ease of pedaling. You want two different states in the same bicycle seat. Narrower and Wider at the same. This is a physical contradiction is space. 2 of the physical contradiction strategies have found application in this example #InventivePrinciple 1 : Segmentation : which prompts us to divide the seat into 2 halves now it’s difficult to pedal with such a seat so another principle come into play #Inventiveprinciple 15 : Dynamics a relative motion between these two halves Now here is an idea in action #TRIZ BMGI
